My options were in Canada and I chose UBC mainly because of the city and weather, I didn't know that Sauder School of Business was actually that great I always thought western university's and the University of Toronto's business school ranked better but I was wrong. I also noticed UBC had a huge campus and it looked more green mainly because the temperature didn't drop below -10c so that's basically the reason why I chose my university.
Course Curriculum
The course is actually amazing and I'm in marketing so it's very up-to-date and relevant especially when we do cases, it's an eye-opening learning experience. A lot of my professors worked in their respective commerce fields and they bring a lot of insight from their old jobs which makes the classes more realistic and not all about textbooks. There are some required courses that I wish we could do without such as commercial law and government and business especially the last one as we are required to ale Econ micro and macro in our first year and we have another managerial economics course that is required so taking government and business, I wouldn't want to take and rather take another commerce elective in my specialization.
Faculty
The ratio depends as you get Higher in your year, it becomes less because courses are according to your specialization. It could be 120:1 or even 60:1 or 45:1. There are some scary professors and that image sticks because they can judge your answers or even not respond when being nice but most of my professors are approachable and have office hours and encourage them to ask questions which is great. Even if it is through email or going directly to them to ask course-related questions or even asking them for advice regarding specialization.
Placement
For marketing, Vancouver isn't the greatest place but there are a lot of start-ups where you can branch out and explore different areas.
Accommodation
I live on campus in UBC upper-year housing. I live in a four-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. The laundry is on the group floor and we get a proper kitchen with a stove and oven and a refrigerator. Space for storage and a great view. For a four-bedroom, it costs about 930 CAD monthly.
Exams
For my application process, I needed to answer some short questions and talk about extracurricular so I wrote about different areas such as academics, sports, arts, and service. I was also required to do timed video questions where I was given a question and about 1 minute to think about the answer before it automatically started recording. I took a gap year and did a lot during that one year so most of my answers were based on everything I had done.
Events
Have to say it's the best campus in Canada. Lots of clubs and events on campus. There are always opportunities to get involved or participate. Libraries are great you could study in different libraries hopefully if there is space as it can get crowded especially during exam time.
Fees
45000 CAD
Scholarship
I received $10000 for an outstanding something because of the diverse extracurricular I had done especially during my gap year.
