The co-op program is where you're able to get related work experience to your program. So when you come out of the program as a fresh undergrad, you already have contacts and work experience under your belt. Most Canadian universities have this program, which is great.

Course Curriculum

8

The syllabi of most courses are up to date. Professors love to talk about new technology especially when it comes to their own research and findings. Talking about their research is a good way to get to know them and for them to get to know you. Any relation with a professor can open doors with research experience as they're more likely to select you to help with their research. The co-op program, although competitive, allows for a good opportunity to work in the industry.

Exams

I had to write down a couple of essays on why I am a good engineering student candidate. What sort of challenges I have faced in my life that will allow me to excel at UBC? After the essays, I submitted my A-level predicted grades transcript and waited for the offer.

Placement

7

I've seen quite a few students go on to grab good jobs after their studies.

Internship

I have not found a co-op job yet.

Events

Campus life is good. Everything is available on campus, but it's good to detach yourself from the campus and go somewhere else every now and then. The campus is beautiful, which means taking walks can be quite enjoyable. First years have a dining hall available to them on the residence and they are guaranteed to get a dorm on campus. There's a wide variety of teams and activities from sports teams to engineering student teams. There's even a quidditch extracurricular available for Harry Potter enthusiasts.

Fees

The average is around 45000CAD excluding the rent.

Scholarship

No, I haven't applied for any scholarship.

Faculty

7

The Chemical Engineering faculty at UBC has some very good professors like Jonathan Verrett and Gabriel Potvin and some not so good professors like Savvas Hatzikiriakos. With that being said, all the professors genuinely care about your well being and your education. All of them will spend time trying to explain difficult concepts, however, the execution of some professors is below par.

Hostel

8

I live on campus. I share with 3 other people and it's been a decent experience. The apartment has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. There are study rooms, a gym, a game room, and a public sitting area for all residents in the building. There's also a courtyard you want to enjoy the nice weather outside. With all that being said, the rent on campus is on the expensive side. Four bedrooms can vary from 800-1000CAD per month depending on how old the residence is. Services and amenities for all residents on campus are more or less the same.
