There were many reasons for choosing this university. The University of Alberta comes in the top 100 universities of the world for my major. It isn't in a major city, so the cost of living is comparably lower. This university also has a reputation for helping students in all ways.

Course Curriculum

9

The course curriculum for the freshman year was quite similar to the course of CBSE 12th, although it was more advanced and application-based.

Exams

For Application, I had to submit my CV, 1 SOP, and 2 LORs from my high-school teachers. In my SOP I explained why I chose this country, why this University, why I wanted to pursue this particular major, how did I know that I had an interest in this field, what achievements I have in his field. It is crucial to make SOP personal with anecdotes and your favorite quotes. I took my LORs from my Math and Physics teacher in grade 12. In the CV it is important to mention your experiences, volunteering, achievements, certificates. No, I didn't have any interviews.

Placement

10

There are career fairs twice a year, where all the top companies come to the campus and give students a chance to interact on a personal level.

Internship

No, I haven't.

Events

There are more than 400 cubs that students can join. So everyone finds something to do. There are volunteer opportunities, some of which are one time and some are regular. The campus is huge and up to all the standards. The campus life is wonderful, more so if you are a freshman, so you get a chance to live on-campus. The dorms have many events, so there is no chance of homesickness.

Fees

For 4 years of the degree, it is $ 80,000 CAD

Scholarship

Yes, I have received an International student scholarship. It was $1000 CAD. I applied for the university scholarships and because of all the documents of extra-curricular activities I had been part of, I was chosen.

Faculty

9

All the faculties are highly approachable. They have student advisors and different help centers. The faculty of Science of the University of Alberta is one of the most comprehensive science faculties in Canada. They have 60 Bachelor of Science (BSc) programs in 39 subject areas.

Hostel

I lived on campus in my first year. The cost depends upon which building you are in, and if you have a double or a single room. The infrastructure is good, although some maintenance goes on regularly. There are gym facilities, coffee shop, study rooms, libraries, and lounges within the dorms. All the buildings are connected through tunnels, so you don't have to go outside again and again. There are floor meetings, regular check-ins, and lots of events all around the year.
