York University is the only university in Canada with a Space Engineering program. I found the syllabus and courses to be very interesting and this program offered courses pertaining to mechanical, electrical, geomatics, and computer engineering. I had applied to 3 universities in the GTA area but got selected here first. My grade 12 average was 89.5%.

Course Curriculum

8

I think the course curriculum was pretty good. As mentioned earlier, many different subjects were offered - which allowed made me learn how to develop foundational skills in different areas. For example, I learned programming languages like Java, C, and Fortran and I also learned CAD modelling softwares such as Solidworks, NX10, and Creo.

Exams

My batch size was around 100 and the total credits were 100+ along with 12 gened credits. There were no particular exams required for admission.

Placement

10

There are many workshops and events that occur on campus. Industry leaders and company representatives come to share information about their organization.

Internship

my program enables to enroll in a co-op 'course' in which the university itself helps me find a placement. Internship and co-op are not requirements for graduation in my program but it is the recommended route to take.

Events

10

There are a plethora of events and clubs at York University. Topics include music, art, photography, rowing, sports, dance, religion, science, astronomy clubs, political activism, environmentalism, etc.

Scholarship

I've applied for a bursary 3 times in a row and I've received it. It's a very simple process and can be done by going to the York University website.

Examination Structure

There are midterm in 1.5 months into the semester (usually before and after reading week) and final exams at the end of the semester. The format is long and short answer and engineering exams rarely have multiple choice.

Faculty

8

The faculty was nice - the professors were helpful and knowledgeable about the subjects they were teaching. They often had a lot of research experience as well.

Hostel

7

I lived at home with my parents and I commuted to campus every day (50 min commute each way). From my friends, I've heard that the living space/residence on campus are pretty good. There is housing nearby as well and students tend to share accommodation there to save on cost.
