Uvic is my hometown university which I have always planned to attend as a result of cheaper expenses while living at home. I also applied at the University of Alberta but then decided to stay home to keep living costs lower. While applying to the two combined schools I spent $200 on application fees.
Course Curriculum
The curriculum for this course tends to be quite difficult in the first year and continues to be challenging however as long as a student does not procrastinate and does all reading/assignments/homework they should succeed.
Exams
This program offers an amazing amount of knowledge for someone who wishes to continue on the medical school, such as myself. As I am Canadian and attending a Canadian university I did not require any exams in order to complete my application. The required courses for this program are English 12, 2 approved Science 12 courses and Pre-Calculus 12.
Internship
Yes, however, I have never been apart of one and cannot speak to it. However, there are many teacher Assistant jobs at the University of Victoria, which are frequently graduate students helping out a certain professor.
Fees
I received a scholarship from the school for my grades. The fee of my program is around 6,000 per year, however, it had not been necessary for me to take out any loans. 1st year I received an entrance scholarship of $2,000 and have applied for many other scholarships which I have not heard back from.
Scholarship
I have received an entrance scholarship from the school.
Examination Structure
Exams are scheduled over the course of 2/3 weeks which are generally 3/4 hours long.
Faculty
The faculty-student ratio is pretty good however for some courses there is not a huge variety of different professors with different teaching styles. Faculty will always have office hours so that a student can go speak with them if there are any issues of misunderstandings in class.
Hostel
I live at home for school, with my parents helping me to make meals etc as long as I am in school taking 5 courses I do not need to pay rent. This allows me the chance to work while living in a quiet space to concentrate on school work.
