Mainly because I could stay in my home province to do what I wanted which means a significant break on tuition and fees because of my location. I knew people, and I could stay close to those I loved and cherished.
Course Curriculum
It covers what we need to know but in some ways needs improvement. There are numerous exciting electives, but some courses lack the required focus. Overall the course curriculum tends to be laid out for students to easily understand.
Fees
Per course $255 (NL students), $335 for Canadian students, $1100 for international students. Other fees for health and dental, student union, campus renewal, full-time student and some others. For an NL student for a semester its approx $1800 before a residence or other living arrangements.
Scholarship
I have received a few scholarships. Most are automatically based on grades and faculty opinion. All students are considered for entrance scholarships.
Examination Structure
Varies by course. Most have at least a midterm and one final. There are courses which are more paper-heavy and others more test heavy. It is the instructor's decision on how they work exams or weight lab grades if applicable.
Faculty
That opinion varies, and it depends on which campus you discuss. Generally, the faculty is respectable and well versed in their subject. Some are more down to earth than others; some are more awkward, and others struggle to teach effectively. Generally, if you work it right, the faculty is personable, approachable and will help. Some aren't so great.
Hostel
The Residence is available and costs about 5000 per semester. Food isn't great, and you are required to have a meal plan, there are also on-campus apartments; most people live off-campus. There is much rental space in the area and others further away with decent bus service.
