Humber College, Advanced Diploma Journalism

Humber is controlled by the University of Guelph which is one of the best universities in Canada. Everyone working in education has heard about Humber somehow at least in Ontario. It's rated better than its competitors like Sheridan or George Brown and has partnered up with more employers too. Humber is well known for its huge international population too which makes it more exciting since I met people from different countries and cultures.

Course Curriculum

8

I got to experience everything related to communication and journalism which is what I wanted. Education without wasting my time on other areas and focusing solely on my field of interest. Courses on how to write and how to use social media are all part of the course curriculum. I love photography and journalism and photography go hand in hand and we are taught everything assuming we don't know anything about the field beginning from ground level zero.

Exams

Making sure that the student has a valid IELTS is mandatory. Humber will not be asking for anything else. My score- 7.5; Required minimum-6.5 overall with no module less than 6.0

Placement

8

Humber is partnered up with CBC, CTV, CP24, and TV Ontario among other great workplaces. 98% of the students end up getting placed in great places. The placement is based on going to job fairs and finding great opportunities for yourself too. Getting hands-on experience is very necessary since great profiles like broadcasters, and reporters require a lot of verbal training with people skills.

Events

Unless someone is very picky, Humber is more than satisfactory in all these areas. The campus infrastructure looks solid and modern, anything better than what exists in India. We have a Tim Hortons on campus for our caffeine addiction. The community is very tight-knit. The college will have great sporting competitions on a regular basis ( both intramural and extramural ) and even countrywide music competitions so there are plenty of things to do around here

Scholarship

2000 CAD in form of a entrance scholarship was provided

Faculty

8

The faculty-to-student ratio at Humber is about 1:40 which is optimal for great understanding and doesn't give that overcrowded feel. Each professor related to my program has worked in their respective fields and started teaching after knowing every bit of it so they are great.

Hostel

No, I live off campus paying 725 CAD per month which is very expensive for a single bedroom. I still have to share a living room and kitchen with two other girls.
