Nishchay Trivedi Review at Lakehead University [LU], Thunder Bay | Collegedunia

Lakehead University for better development

NT
6.3 /10

Well, I am more interested in the field of Data Science. Since there is a lot of competition in the computer science field, Lakehead was the best option for me.

Course Curriculum :

The course curriculum is really good if one really wants to learn more in the field of data science. However, there are some professors whose accent is really difficult to understand. Research opportunities are quite good while industrial exposure is less as compared to other universities but I cannot complain much about it as I got a job as a part of campus placement but there are students who are still looking for a job.

Exams :

There is no GRE requirement for this university. Your academics and IELTS are required. They require a minimum of 70% in undergraduate and 6.5 in IELTS (due to high competition I would suggest at least 7 is recommended) I had 80.7% in undergraduate and overall IELTS is 7. In individual modules Listening: 7.5, Reading: 7.5 Speaking: 6.5, Writing: 6.5

Placement :

We have career fairs for all events. But especially for CS programs, they don't have many employers (only a few companies come to hire careers). Students have to search for jobs on their own on websites like LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor etc.

Internship :

No. Cooperation is optional here and I didn't opt ??for it.

Events :

The campus is very beautiful. There is a lake in the premises. The surrounding area is very nice. There are many extracurricular activities. Just keep an eye on each of them. I can't even count anymore.

Fees :

For my course, the average fee is $8000 per semester. It takes at least 5 semesters to complete the course so that sums up to $40,000.

Scholarship :

No, I did not get any scholarship. But keep a constant eye on the student clubs of the university.

Faculty :

During my Master, I liked the way some professors taught. I learned the in-depth concepts of Big Data Analytics and Natural Language Processing. There are 4 batches consisting of 45 students.

Hostel :

Housing in Thunder Bay is quite affordable compared to larger cities. It costs around $300 per month on a shared basis (this varies on different properties). Some owners provide furniture (including beds, chairs, tables etc.) while some do not even provide beds, so in such situations, a mattress will have to be purchased.
