The Canadian study visa fee as per the CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) is 150 CAD which is purely for the visa without taking into account any additional services required by the applicant. At present in India, this fee is INR 9,080 as decided by the Canadian Embassy.

The fee is subject to change without any prior notice and needs to be paid at the time of filing the study visa application at the VFS center either in cash or through a credit card. Applicants also have the facility to pay the fee online. Another way to pay the fee is through a demand draft which needs to be drawn in favor of the High Commission of Canada.

The Canada student visa fee paid through any mode is non-refundable and the applicant is required to keep the receipt of the fee paid securely as it can be required at any time as evidence.

Biometric Fee for the Study Visa

The Canadian High Commission started taking biometrics in 2018 as an additional security feature. Applicants with study visas applicants have to procure an appointment to give their biometrics that includes fingerprints of all ten fingers and a photograph. The biometric fee for individuals is 85 CAD internationally and 5,150 INR at present.

How to Get Canada Student Visa from India?

To obtain a study permit for Canada from India, the applicant needs to file a complete application along with the required documents at the nearest VFS office by paying the required fee. The Canada student visa requirements for Indian students are mentioned below.

  • The applicant needs to have an offer letter from a designated learning institution (DLI)in Canada. After securing admission, the fee for the first semester/year needs to be paid to receive the letter of confirmation.
  • English proficiency test forms of standardized tests in Canada like IELTS, PTE as acceptable by the institution need to be there showing the required minimum score.
  • Other standardized test results like SAT/GMAT/LSAT etc as per the course requirement.
  • Under the SDS scheme, a GIC deposit certificate of CAD 10,000 or under general category documentation showing liquid funds to cover the fee and living expenses is required to prove the financial worthiness.
  • A medical examination record, Police clearance certificate (if required), Academic transcripts of the previous education records.
  • Passport size photographs as per specifications of the high commission.
  • A well-drafted Statement of purpose explaining the reasons to select the particular course, institution, country, and short and long-term future plans.
  • Any other required or relevant document.

Canadian Student Visa Application for Indian Students

Indian students can apply for Canadian student visas through offline and online mode. While applying online digital copies of all the documentation should be kept ready prior to filing the application as this digital documentation is required to be uploaded to complete the visa application. Under this process, the fee is paid online but the applicant still needs to seek an appointment and give the biometrics. The online process for a Canadian student visa is much faster than applying offline.

To apply for the visa application offline, the applicant has to fill the required set of forms. The form includes personal information, family information, and agent representation form (if any) also. The visa application completed with all the original documents needs to be deposited at the nearest VFS office by paying the requisite fee either in cash or through a demand draft. Biometrics are to be given after seeking a prior appointment only in this case too. The VFS or the high commission does provide a visa application tracking facility in all cases.

It is always advisable to apply for the study visa at least three months in advance from the date when you are required to be in Canada for attending your classes.
