I elected to go to QUT due to its reputation. I had heard and researched that QUT had one of the best technology courses and curriculum in comparison to other universities teaching the same course. Its location is in the middle of the city also made it easy for me to reach it from work.

Course Curriculum

8

The curriculum was alright, but it wasn't anything amazing. It did assist me in learning new concepts and technologies, as well as understanding how these things work and some of their applications in the world. Unfortunately, the major area that I'm working on now (IT Support) had minimal teaching. My knowledge of the curriculum may be outdated, but I wasn't taught about Microsoft Server, Microsoft Exchange, Powershell, SCCM, or Active Directory - all useful and crucial technologies used in workplaces all over the world.

Placement

7

There is a multitude of job opportunities and placements, but these are something you must apply for of your own accord. QUT has a job placement board that you can go to in order to apply for jobs, internships, and other work opportunities. They also force you to work on an industry project for your two capstone units at the end of the degree, so you can gather some work experience working for a particular employer.

Internship

Yes, but I never claimed or used any. They provided bursaries to those of Aboriginal descent, financially struggling students and students who were entering their first year and excelled academically in high school.

Events

8

I wouldn't know. I never participated in these events, or even pay any attention to them. I just went to my lectures and tutorials, and then headed home to work on my assignments, go through the lectures at my own pace, and study.

Fees

The fee structure was, you were charged a flat amount per unit per semester. There is extreme transparency with the cost, and students have the ability to drop out of the particular unit before the unit cost is incurred. I never had to pay for any resources in order to take the course, but textbooks were recommended (and the ones I did acquire were certainly helpful).

Scholarship

No, I never applied for any so I am not informed enough to guide you on how to apply for this. I don't believe it'd be too difficult though.

Examination Structure

The exam structure is based on a three-week duration, where your exams could be scheduled anywhere across these three weeks. The exams are structured and typically go for 90 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how long the exam is. There are defined rules of what you can and can't bring into the exam. After a set duration, you are allowed to leave, and you can't leave in the last 15 minutes of the exam.

Faculty

8

The faculty of the course was excellent. They all cared for the content being taught, as well as for the success of the students. They consistently helped me out when I asked for it, but also equally split their attention with the other students to help everyone out.

Hostel

5

I just lived in a share house off of campus. It essentially just keeps your spaces clean, have good hygiene, do your laundry and don't leave your rubbish around. Be respectful of your roommates, but just be careful as your roommates won't always care as much as you do.
