- Develop the practical skills and knowledge required to work as an engineer watchkeeper on board ocean-going vessels.
- Students will learn to maintain a safe engineering watch and to perform various tasks in relation to shipboard plant and equipment checking, maintenance, repairs and shipboard fabrication and repair operations while ensuring that procedures of operational quality and personal safety are observed. Students will learn to operate alternators, generators and controls systems to supply shipboard electrical power, pumping systems main, auxiliary machinery, steam propulsion plant and associated control systems.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
These courses are only part of the prerequisites for the eligibility with AMSA for their final oral assessment prior to issuing of the Certificates of Competency. A student must also have specific and necessary training and sea-service before they are eligible for AMSA final assessment. Students need to apply for Qualifying Sea Service (QSS) approval from AMSA once they receive a letter of offers from TAFE NSW.
