I got a full ride for this college and my brother went there and had a great experience. The theatre department also had a Lord D theatre on campus that we got to collaborate with and participate in shows with.
Course Curriculum
There is a lot of Gen Ed's which can feel like a waste of time at some points. It seemed excessive at times because I wanted to focus on my major requirements and extracurricular activities that would help me with my career.
Exams
I only took the ACT. As far as university exams go, I only took ones for classes. I don't plan on attending grad school so I haven't taken any post-grad exams.
Placement
There is a lot of opportunities to work in the food jobs on campus because there are so many, but a lot of people don't realize that there are jobs in other fields on campus like the library or research labs.
Internship
Our college provides work-study so you can have a job on campus, in the library or at a Starbucks, and the hours will go towards paying your tuition. I didn't participate in this because I had enough scholarships.
Events
We have plenty of outreach events that our student council puts on, but the biggest event we have is Lollapalooza, this is an outdoor concert that mimics Lollapalooza in Chicago. We usually have a really cool artist come and the tickets are cheap.
Fees
There are a lot of fees obviously, but one important thing for parents to remember is that students have the option to opt in or out of student programming fees. This is where a portion of students fees go towards student events. If you opt-in you can go to events for free usually.
Scholarship
Yes. I applied for a lot of scholarships in my senior year of high school, but most of my money came from financial aid. I have a single parent home.
Examination Structure
Midterms and end of term exams. Some teachers like to have a bunch of smaller exams throughout the semester that weigh less. But there will always be midterms and finals in every class you take. It's required.
Faculty
The faculty in my department were very impressive, especially for a school that isn't known for theatre. I respected all of their credentials and learned a lot.
Hostel
I only lived in a dorm during my freshman year because it was overpriced. I lived right off campus every other year and loved it. Much cheaper and I could still walk to class. I didn't even have to drive which was great because our parking situation was horrible.
