I was attracted to the emphasis on interdisciplinary learning. Parsons allows you to pursue multiple design fields before narrowing down to one which was essential for someone like me who was not sure what she wanted to pursue initially.
Course Curriculum
The courses taught to my major are updated every year and since most of our professors all have jobs within the industry I feel like they have great insight and hence we are given quite a lot of exposure and have r ability to ask questions and about their first-hand experiences.
Exams
We had to submit our portfolio with 10-15 artworks along with a statement of intent for each. This was along with our high school transcripts and an essay stating why we were the right fit for the university.
Placement
I am still a student but the school offers help with internship opportunities depending on your major. I have had friends studying fashion design who have had the opportunity to be a part of New York Fashion Week and people studying Communication Design get internships at great content studios in NYC.
Internship
I interned at a content studio names By The Gram in Mumbai, India, and was paid $400 / month. The application process involved submitting my cv, portfolio as well as an interview.
Events
Since our campus is in the heart of downtown NYC we have less of campus life but I do not mind that. Our research facilities And libraries are great but although we offer clubs I do not think they are as popular as on other college campuses.
Fees
Around $27,000 / semester
Scholarship
Dean?s BFA Scholarship $10,000/year based on my portfolio
Faculty
The student faculty ratio is 9:1 and most of the classes I have taken in parsons have had less than 20 students
Hostel
I live in an apartment - not on campus or in college accommodation.
