The location and opportunities that I would have access to while attending American University seemed great and suitable for my area of study. Also, they guarantee to meet your total financial need when applying early decision, which is what I did. I took a lot of AP classes in high school to prepare for college, which helped in the decision process due to my commitment to learning. The School or International Service is very highly ranked among colleges in the U.S for studying international relations, which made me very interested in studying here. I became interested in this field of study due to my interest in law, and I discovered that this major would be a good path as an undergraduate degree leading up to law school.

Placement

10

Around 85% of graduates from AU land a career in their area of study after graduation. The career center is very helpful in advising and helping students get internships and careers throughout the application process.

Internship

There are career and internship fairs on campus regularly, where employers in the area will recruit students from our university. There are also jobs on campus offered to those who have federal work studies in their financial aid packets.

Scholarship

AU offers various scholarships and grants, both based on financial need and merit. The presidential scholarship from the university and the dean?s grant requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and 3.4, respectively. But, there are many other scholarships, loans, and grants offered to students in their financial aid packets.

Faculty

The student-faculty ratio is great here. Most of my classes contained less than 20 students and the professors are very understanding and helpful if you regularly attend office hours.

Hostel

I moved off-campus after my first year to save money and due to my summer internship. It is common for students to move off-campus after their first year or two at AU, especially because there are many apartment complexes located within .25 miles from the campus. Off-campus accommodations allow you to save on meal plan expenses, as you can cook in your apartment, and you can live with whomever you choose.
