My area of research has a frontier researcher in USF, Dr. Elhamdadi who is a big name in the field of Quandle Theory. I chose the university also for its research output which is pretty high in the department of mathematics.
Course Curriculum
The course structure for grad school esp in my subject is outstanding, the professors are active in research and agile.
Exams
GRE general(320/340 168Q 152V 4.0AWA), GRE subject(math)(60th percentile), TOEFL(110/120 28R 23S 30W 29L)
Placement
PhD mathematics from USF work in both academia and industry. The placement process is usually through individual application. Since it is PhD you don't ususally have a job fair but you can attend one and get a job, some in the past have gotten.
Internship
For Math, the best option is to attend conferences. However for internship, the best option is National Labratory, CITI Bank, JP Morgan etc.
Fees
I am a PhD student in USF, for me my program is fully funded but I have to pay about $1700/year.
Scholarship
Fully funded PhD program with $22971/year stipend as Teaching Assistant and full health insurance coverage. One needs to apply for this by going to the respective department website and look for TA application form. Along with that, one needs 2 LOR for this application process.
Faculty
faculty to student ratio is almost 1:30 for department of math. For my department the faculty is very helpful, they are all active in research, most of them are leading their field and some are distinguished professors. Math faculties all of them are very approachable and almost always available to help. Some notable professors: Dr Xiang Dong Hou, Dr Mohamed Elhamdadi, Dr. Razvan Teoderescu, Dr. Dymtro Savchuk, Dr. Catherine Beneteau, Dr. Dmytri Khavinson
Campus Life
Campus life in usf is pretty good. The environment is perfect to study. It is a non-party school so it is good for all academic expossure. Along with that, career prospects in usf are good, they have frequent job fairs and workshops on the same. USF is highly diverse in culture so you name a festival and USF celebrates it with enthusiasm. Wifi is average but still does what it needs to do.
Hostel
I stay off-campus housing and I have a private room. In Tampa, a typical rent would be $650/month for a 4x4, $700/month for a 3x3, $800/month for a 2x2 and about $1100/month for a 1x1.
