Akshay Singh Review at University Of Utah, Salt Lake City | Collegedunia

University of Utah review

I found the faculty and courses to be interesting and there's a high chance of getting funded here. It has good research opportunities; although I did not take advantage of them.

Course Curriculum :

The course content is very relevant and diverse; there are accomplished faculty members in various areas of CS.

Exams :

My scores: GRE 164 Verbal 165 Quant 5 Writing; TOEFL 114/120

Placement :

The university organizes job fairs and a lot of local companies visit them, but that doesn't do much for placement. You've to apply online to most places no matter what happens at the job fairs.

Internship :

Interned at amazon.com which paid about 6-7K per month. Online application and interviews.

Fees :

~$15K per semester without funding. ~$250 per semester with funding.

Scholarship :

No

Faculty :

The vast majority of the faculty is very approachable. In some classes the ratio can be as low as 1:10, while some of the popular or mandatory ones can have close to a hundred students in one class. Even in those cases, the course was usually fun and assistance was always available.

Campus Life :

There's free wifi on campus. There's an association of Indian students who organize events specifically for the Indian students and offer a lot of help to new students coming in. The university has a decent number of general events as well throughout the year for those who're interested.

Hostel :

Renting an apartment with roommates will be the most convenient option; on campus options are limited. If you're willing to share a room you could probably find a place for around $400. $700-$800 might be possible for a private room.
