It is a small town college, directly beside where I grew up so I was familiar with the area. I would be able to live with my parents, TOPS would pay for almost all of my college, and I knew the school had a good science program.

Course Curriculum

7

I believe that it was fair and a good course curriculum, but now that I'm in dental school, I do not feel as nearly prepared as others in my class are. Louisiana Tech challenged me for sure but I do not feel like I got the highest education.

Exams

I took the ACT to get into Louisiana Tech and scored a 25 overall. Once in school, my junior year, I took the Dental Admissions Test - 19 overall.

Placement

7

The area where the school is located is fairly small, so I did not think it was hard at all to find job opportunities in the community. There are also a lot of on-campus job opportunities that are work/study.

Internship

My program in biological sciences did not provide internships. I know they offer some for different majors like kinesiology or engineering but I was not aware of any opportunities for my specific area of study.

Events

10

Homecoming is always a huge deal at Louisiana Tech and we have a week dedicated to homecoming festivities and events leading up to the football game. It's always super fun and tons of alumni come to the events.

Fees

All fees were handled online through the BOSS website and through our financial aid services. We were on a quarter system so about a month before the next quarter started we would be charged and have to pay.

Scholarship

Yes, I received a couple of scholarships from sports/applications in high school and then I also received middle-level TOPS that covered about 80% of all of my tuition.

Examination Structure

I would say almost all of my exams were on scantrons for the biological science classes, but I did have a couple of classes that were short answer and essay format in classes like English and electives.

Faculty

8

I LOVED the majority of the faculty. They were all very helpful and willing to help us learn, considering classroom sizes were smaller so I felt that I got the chance to know them pretty well.

Hostel

9

I lived at home with my parents for all four years since Louisiana Tech is located where I grew up. It always took me about five minutes to drive and commute to class and traffic is never an issue in Ruston.
