Smith College, Bachelor of Arts

I was looking for a small, liberal arts college and when I visited Smith I thought it was beautiful. Furthermore, the students at this school definitely helped with my decision. The reason for this is because some seniors used their Sunday to tour me around as I couldn't make it during the regular tour slots. They were very courteous and nice. The admissions counselor was also very sweet when she interviewed me.

Course Curriculum

10

I think the Smith College course curriculum is amazing and it is one of the reasons I chose the school. We have no requirements besides our Writing Intensive and major requirements. There are a variety of classes we can choose from and we can almost always get into these classes. They also make us take classes outside of our major as in order to graduate there are a certain amount of credits you need to take outside of your major.

Exams

I took the ACT when applying to Smith. I got a 30 as my overall score. I did not take any other exam.

Placement

7

We do not have any placements or job opportunities. They do send us a lot of emails about internships though, but we must look for it ourselves. Our career center is very helpful and they also hold many workshops.

Internship

No, they do not. However, they do give us PRAXIS which is for unpaid internships that we can find ourselves. This is a stipend they give us and it varies depending on where we decide to work (International internships get paid more than domestic ones).

Events

6

We have many events such as mountain day, rally day, and convocation. Mountain day is a random day during the fall semester that the President chooses where we have no school and we can go apple picking/bake/etc. Rally day is for seniors and they can celebrate together and occurs in February. As for convocation, it is at the beginning of the school year and everyone dresses up.

Fees

We pay tuition, housing+meal plan (which are together), insurance, and activities fee. This is all paid together and is not separate. I believe there are extra charges for some art classes.

Examination Structure

We have a self-scheduled exam structured for finals and for midterms, they are usually in class or must be taken within an allotted number of days. This allows us to study at our own pace and take the exam when we are ready.

Faculty

10

They are all very helpful and their door is open. They always tell you to come to office hours and tell you to come even if you don't have a specific question. When you do have a question, they all answer it well or try their best to.
