Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Electronics and Telecommunications is a postgraduate degree in engineering. It is the allied branch of engineering in electronics department. Most of the Engineering Colleges in India offer this course in same or its allied branches. The course uses applied tools of science and mathematics to develop electronics in communication systems.
The basic eligibility of this course is to hold a bachelors degree, B.E or B.Tech with a bare minimum of 50% or any other equivalent engineering degree. The tuition fee for this course is around 50-70k in government colleges and 3-4 lakhs in private institutions. Admission to this course is generally done on the basis of GATE score.
At the end of this course, one would be able to work with government organisations like DRDO, ISRO, Civil Aviation, Defence and can also work well with private firms in IT sector, entertainment sector, media houses, consulting. One can get into private firms or government institutions at the end of the programme. Work profiles which the students usually get are , Service engineer, Technical director, professor etc. Average starting salary after this course is around 3-4 lakhs.
This programme teaches the way how different components of a system interact with each other .This course gives them an edge over others and give them the analytical skills and competence to deal with complex systems.Electrical engineers along with communications knowledge design the transmitters and receivers of the communication systems.
M.Tech. in Electronics and Telecommunications is a course where the students learn about all the components of electrical and communications equipment. It includes study of Analogue communications, Digital Communications, Embedded Systems etc. Here, the students will be given sound grounding of electronic engineering plus the theory and applications of communication systems. Communications on the other hand is a major field and it compliments electrical engineering for designing , managing and installing telecommunication equipments.

This course has great prospects in manufacturing industries, data communications and every company or organisation because in any case , every organisation needs electrical gadgets. The curriculum teaches real time transfer of information through internet. Here, semiconductor devices are used to make electronics and also deals with transformation of information across channels such as fibre optics.
Colleges also provide other courses along with this , which can be in radio, satellite and cellular phones. The fundamental theories of electrical circuits provides skills of circuit and communication system design and development.
Duration of this course is mainly of two years divided into four semester of three months each. Every semester, students will choose elective subjects. And have to present a dissertation or a project in the last semester.
Students can also enhance their knowledge by pursuing higher education in this field. Research in this field includes further specializations. There are many universities in India which offer Ph.D. in electronics and its allied branches. Students after completing M.Tech can also go for research work in abroad.
M.Tech. in Electronics and Telecommunication is not offered by the same name in most of the engineering colleges, however colleges offer this specialization with different names with same curriculum.
