Distinctive features of this course

As a Joint Honours degree student you will study both subjects equally offering you a wide choice of options within subjects. You will have the opportunity to begin the language from scratch and explore some of the oldest and deepest questions that the human mind has raised. There are a number of specialist topics for you to choose from including a wide range of authors, literary genres and cultural themes from the archaic to imperial period, differentiating truth from falsehood, the relation of the mind to the body, the existence of God and the illusion of freedom. You also have the opportunity to develop critical and analytical skills and constructing arguments under the tutelage of staff that are at the forefront of research in various fields. It may be possible to spend a semester or year studying abroad as part of this degree programme.
