This course encourages the practical engagement with performance texts to enhance your imaginative and analytical development, and it integrates theory and practice throughout.
The Drama and Theatre programme is offered at the Royal Holloway University of London.
During the first year you will be introduced to a range of practical and analytical skills. Building on this, you will participate in a performance research project in the second year and, in the third year, complete a substantial piece of work, which may be a dissertation, a group production, or another independent learning project. In addition to these core subjects, you will be able to choose from a wide range of elective units, all taught by staff with specialist expertise.
Why choose this course?
- The Department is one of the largest theatre departments in the UK, so it can offer an unusually wide range of subject areas, all taught by specialists.
- Teaching is always at the cutting-edge of the subject as the Department has a strong research culture: all staff are active researchers and over 95% of our research is recognised internationally (RAE 2008).
- The Department is well resourced, with a workshop, six technical staff, three major performance spaces (the Studio Theatre, the Boilerhouse, and the Handa Noh Studio), and two rehearsal rooms equipped for performance. A digital studio allows students to explore new technology.
- We are committed to the integration of theory and practice at all times. Our teaching emphasises experimental projects that test ideas.
- Our proximity to central London offers students easy access to the capital's many productions, with theatre professionals also contributing to our teaching.
