This course atÊUniversity of Derby offers a compelling combination of mathematics, computing and information systems, allowing you to tailor your studies to match your interests and career aspirations.
This degree equips you with the tools and techniques of mathematics, statistics and computing, together with the skills to apply them effectively in solving real-life problems.
The programme will introduce you to the topics of discrete and computational mathematics that support computing, such as set theory, logic and matrices. You will also learn the fundamental theories, concepts and practices of computer programming.
This will ensure you develop the skills you need to design, implement and test computer-robust and reliable programmes using modern mathematical software such as Matlab and Excel. The computing aspect of the course encourages precise logical thinking and programming using mathematical principles.
You can also make the most of opportunities through Erasmus Plus, a European scheme promoting mobility for students and staff in higher education. You could consider studying for a semester or taking a placement abroad with one of our selected Erasmus Plus partners. These include UBB Cluj and UAB University of Alba Iulia in Romania; Bogazici University in Turkey; the University of Maribor in Slovenia; or the University of Piraeus and the University of Macedonia in Greece.
Careers
Employers recognise and value the problem-solving, analytical and numerical skills and competences that our BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Computer Science graduates can offer. You will therefore discover a wide range of career opportunities when you graduate.
You will develop skills which are ideal for jobs such as computer programmer, network technician, systems architect or systems engineer and will demonstrate that you have the potential to work at the level of IT director.
