English language at Cardiff has a distinctive character. As would be expected of any good course, you will be provided with a rigorous grounding in the analysis of the language.
Thus you will learn such essential linguistic tools as phonetics, grammar and discourse analysis from those who are helping develop those fields. Since we take a broad approach to language, you will also learn how to analyse the types of multimodal texts (for example combining word, image and sound) that predominate in contemporary media. We also focus on the intersection of language with culture, society, politics and mind.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- 32-31 overall or 6,6,5 in 3 HL subjects
- Official transcripts of all the previous school, colleges or universities
English Language Requirements:
- IELTS academic: overall 6.5 minimum with 5.5 in each subskill
- TOEFL iBT: 90 overall minimum with minimum socres of 17 for writing, 17 for listening, 18 for reading and 20 for speaking
- PTE academic: 62 minimum overall with overall 59 minimum in all communicative skills
Indian Student Specific Requirements:
- Average of 65% in top 4 subjects (not including physical education) in Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (Class XII)
