The MA English (by Research) offered at The University of HulÊhave renowned expertise in medieval literature and medievalism, Shakespeare and Renaissance drama, early modern literature and politics, 19th-century studies (particularly the novel and the visual arts), modern and contemporary literature (particularly poetry and fiction), genre fiction (gothic, crime and science fiction), and creative writing.
We offer two research options for postgraduate students Ð MRes English (Literature and Creative Writing pathways) or a PhD (English or Creative Writing). You have access to the superb facilities of the newly refurbished Brynmor Jones Library, as well as our Graduate School. PhD students have exclusive use of the libraryÕs Postgraduate Lounge. Research is strongly interdisciplinary and enhanced by the research networks of its centres: the Andrew Marvell Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies, andÊthe Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies. Training in subject-specific research skills and methodologies is provided by the department, on top of the UniversityÕs Postgraduate Training Scheme.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
Students must hold a minimum of a second-class UK degree or an equivalent internationally recognized qualification from a recognized university.
Indian Students:
Indian students typically need to have completed a three or four-year undergraduate degree (Honours Bachelor degree or Professional degree) at an accredited university or college. The requirements will depend on the postgraduate degree students are applying for and the institution they have studied at.
- For programs that require a 2:1, a First Class degree, a final CGPA of 6.0/10, or 60%. Students from top institutions may be considered with a high Second Class degree, a final CGPA of 5.5/10, or 55%.
- For programs that require a 2:2, a high Second Class degree, a final CGPA of 5.5/10, or 55%.
