Rosie's Experience at University of Sussex

R
9.5 /10

Because I liked that it was in Brighton and the course was extremely interesting to me. I get to learn contemporary issues that relate to my interests as well as gain skills that employers are keen for students to have. I also heard really good things about it and upon visiting really like the atmosphere of the campus.

Course Curriculum :

Really interesting and challenging, allowing me to learn skills that employers look for, such as ground modeling and Microsoft Excel statistical analysis skills. These can be transferred to any kind of job and so I really enjoy my course. Very contemporary.

Internship :

Yes - in summer 2018 I went to China on a 4-week internship. I worked in the international marketing department of a company named "InMotion" who make green technology and short distance vehicles. I got to experience the culture and how it differs to ours as well as gain an insight into what a marketing department does and how they operate.

Events :

My university is very inclusive and celebrates almost all the main religious events, including Christmas and Easter and Holi fest and Passover and many more. We have a dedicated week called "One World Week" where students can partake in events relating to global interests and cultures, expanding their knowledge and becoming more worldly.

Fees :

The fees were 9000 (UK Limit) a year in 2016 before being bumped up to 9250 (UK Limit) for 2017 and 2018. This was borrowed from the Student Finance England department and paid upfront by them, for students to repay upon earning 25000 in their first job. Maintenance loans were also given out, depending on the income of your parents.

Scholarship :

Yes - my first-year accommodation rent was reduced by 40% and each year I've been awarded a bureau of 1000, paid in instalments each term. I was automatically enrolled in this and so all I had to do was supply my bank details.

Examination Structure :

Good, the modules are normally equally weighted between coursework and exams. They generally are essay questions which allows you to demonstrate what you have learnt and apply it in context. Sometimes there are multiple voice questions which are a bit easier (depending on if you prefer them). You get plenty of preparation and workshops and past papers so you are ready for what is coming.

Faculty :

The faculty are what make the course in my opinion; they are all so intelligent and kind and put the students first. I know them all by name and not by title and feel like I can go to them if I ever have any problems and they are always more than happy to help me.

Hostel :

My first-year residence wasn't amazing but it was good enough. It was on campus so I was able to easily access all the buildings. It had a large kitchen and bedrooms but communal bathroom and showers, one of each were broke throughout the time of my residency.
