University of Exeter MBA review

AM

I thought it would be a good university to enhance my MBA and learn in-depth business acumen, leadership skills, diverse exposure to cohort and make long-lasting friendships. In addition, it was an opportunity to learn about British culture, social background, explore the country and learn about their traditions and beliefs.

Course Curriculum :

It is heavily based on sustainability and very little about classic MBA modules. It is based primarily on Circular economy and for those seeking to enhance their understanding on green priniciples(reuse, reduce, recycle thinking) can take up this course. It does delve into traditional courses on strategy, theoretical leadership, marketing, entrepreneurship, sales, finance, operations, among others.

Exams :

IELTS - 7.5

Placement :

It is a bit of a challenge due to saturation of the market and lot of demand for London. It would depend on what the role one is looking for. Industires are spread across the UK but London, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh, etc are all cities that have their respective sectors and companies.

Internship :

IKeep is an organisation that has internships. I attended just the initial part of the program. students are chosen based on merit and availabilty of slots and roles.

Scholarship :

1.University of Exeter Scholarship 2.Global commitement scholarship We received these 2 scholarships from the uni as part of the covid relief support. We had close to 8 months of online learning and 2 months of on-campus teaching, for which they awarded all students the 1st scholarship. The range of scholarship amount varied between 8500 to 18000 pounds as each student differed based on merit.

Faculty :

They are a wonderful group of academics. Exeperts in their respective fields and are very friendly. They will help and support you in your journey throughout the MBA. A book could literally be written about all the professors we have met and learnt from. It was a privilege to meet some of them in person, although due to covid restrictions, I am yet to meet some more.

Campus Life :

We got to see campus life only in sep 2021. We have been on zoom sessions throughout the year and the lockdown was lifted only in May and by the time we got to see more students it was August- September. In terms of extracurricular activities, we have been able to explore very little due to covid. But we did manage to explore the gym and sports club, library, MBA suite, a few cafes on campus, lecture rooms, have a few gatherings (keeping in mind social distancing). I think the previous batch and the next batch will have a much better experience.

Hostel :

Oncampus accommodation is more expensive than private or in city student accommodation. If I had known before, I would have taken private accommodation. Regardless of the type of accommodation, all landlords will give you a contract for no less that 6 months. You can extend it for a further 6 months. But it is extremely difficult to get a short term rent( 1,2,3,4 months). You have to search in advance and be present in person when booking your accommodation. Private places are closer to the city centre that allows you to buy groceries, essentials a lot more easily than on campus. There are no stores available on campus.
