My teacher at the college suggested this university for me. I knew that teachers were helpful, and because when I was young I had many difficulties succeeding with my studies, I thought that I should choose a university that was not too demanding and supportive. When I started at the University of Sunderland in London, I was impressed by the various activities the institution offered. Also, the university has many departments for students to help them with various enquiries and assistance. For example, one of them is the department of health and well-being. The university engages in many activities such as conferences, trips, and events. Many societies organised by students with the help of the university deliver many activities that provide a better social environment. In fact, the tourism and travel society organises trips for students across the UK and abroad. Also, sports societies are available at the university, such as a dance club, swimming, football, and more, for active students. So far, being a student at the University of Sunderland in London has been a unique experience! The institution collaborates with the University of Sunderland in Hong Kong. The university is definitely multicultural. I made many friends, starting from Indians and Asians to Europeans, Africans, and South Americans. There are many employment events where students can meet potential employers for opportunities such as internships and work experience with important companies.

Course Curriculum

I had to deliver a report for each module. Often, we had to do research on a company that we chose. I had to research how to expand my business internationally. It was interesting since we are advancing into a more globalised world. I also learned about environmental issues, poverty, and overtourism because I thought these issues were very important now and I hope that one day I can improve tourism and management to make the world a better place for everyone.the MSC gave me a good foundation and basic skills for my future studies as a PHD researcher. You can check my case study at the Sunderland University in London website under the section case studies – Travel and Tourism.

Faculty

At the beginning, there used to be many students. When I started with the international tourism and hospitality (top-up), there were 70 students. During the second term, the number dropped to 30 or 40. At the end of the course, we were left with about 20 students. Therefore, since the number of students dropped drastically during the last term, teachers can give extra support to students and also be very approachable. The manager coordinator programme manager, Blerton Hyseni is very open to students' suggestions and he always encourages students to approach him for any enquiries. He is often available at his office, and he tries to adjust to students' demands to the best of his ability. Many other teachers are very helpful and open to listening to students in my course studies. I think I had the best teachers! Also, Vipin Nadda has extensive knowledge of hotel management, business, and marketing. Lila Milone is the most creative teacher I've never had. Every time I had a lecture with her, it was very pleasant. I didn't even have the feeling of being at school. Also, Franziska Vogt gives really valuable advice and directives to students.

Campus Life

The university has a well-furnished library with the availability of many types of computers. Also, there are many study areas with free sockets for charging laptops and telephones. On the upper floors, there are a lot of places for students to study, as well as places for groups to study. There are two rooms for private meetings. A large canteen provides fresh Indian food, fresh vegetables and fruits, with an allocated sitting area. At the far end of the sitting area, a pool table, ping-pong table game, and table football are provided by the university for the students' enjoyment. The university expanded due to the increasing number of students, acquiring another building next to the older university. The new establishment is furnished with a modern canteen and study areas as well. This is a common misunderstanding. The university offers extra short courses in which students can participate during their time at the university. For example, I applied for a marketing course for which the duration was about 5 months and I had to attend once a week. At the end of the course, I received a certificate of attendance for the completion of the course from the university. I also completed the project management course, and now I am studying Microsoft Word, for which I will have to sit for an exam at the end of the course to get the certificate. I didn't apply for the entrepreneurship course because I was not interested in it, but this course is also available to students. There is the availability of job volunteer opportunities for students with the Eco Festival, in which I participate as a film critic.
