January 04, 2022: UK Ministers are now planning to ease the immigration restrictions for Indian students studying in the country. The changes will be implemented to make the process of living, studying, and working in the United Kingdom easy and simplified for Indians.
With this initiative of the UK Government, Indian students who are now studying in the United Kingdom will have the right to live and work in the country for up to three years. This step will be counted as a major effort to strengthen the trade relationships between UK and India.
In addition to the visa restrictions, the government is also expected to reduce the cost of visas for Indian students and allow them to stay in the country even after their graduation. As of now, the cost of a visa for both work and tourism purposes can cost up to 1,400 pounds.

While talking about this initiative, the Department of International Trade spokesperson said, “India is projected to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2050 and a free trade agreement will open up huge opportunities for UK businesses to trade with India’s 2.25 trillion pound economy".
“Companies up and down the country can look forward to the benefits, from manufacturers in the West Midlands to tech experts in Belfast, and we look forward to launching negotiations early next year" the officials further added.

Indian Students in the UK may be Granted Visas Similar to Australians
The plan to ease immigration restrictions is expected to be implemented by UK Ministers as a part of the free trade agreement between the countries. Under this agreement, both countries will work together in bonding closer economic relations.
Under this expected agreement, students who are studying in the UK will be offered visa benefits similar to Australians. As of now, the Austrian students studying in the UK are offered with a Youth Mobility Scheme visa, which allows them to work in the country.

As per the scheme, Australian students who are between the age limit of 18 to 30 years are permitted to stay in the country with unrestricted work rights. The duration for the stay for students who meet the criteria is up to two years.
Furthermore, under the Youth Mobility Scheme visa, students can study in the UK, work in most jobs with unrestricted work rights, and can be self-employed and set up a company. Indian students are also expected to be given the same benefits under the UK Minister’s plan.

The agreement between India and the UK will also provide an opportunity for various UK businesses to grow in India's growing economy. The agreement will be beneficial to both countries in the education and trade sectors.
India has not participated in any trade deals with either the US or European Union till now. By joining hands with the UK Government, this will be counted as the first where India and UK will jointly work towards forming an economically friendly relationship.
