UCAS Personal Statement: Structure, Sample and Guidelines

UCAS Personal Statement: Structure, Sample and Guidelines

UCAS is the Universities and Colleges Application for seeking admission in the United Kingdom institutions. Mostly all renowned colleges and universities accept applications through UCAS even if they have their own application system.

The UCAS system provides the opportunity to select more than one course and requires you to write a personal statement as a mandatory requirement.

UCAS also gives you an opportunity to write one personal statement even when you are applying to multiple institutions in the United Kingdom as you can write the statement without mentioning any name of the college/university.

What is UCAS Statement?

It is a statement that tells the institution about why you have opted for a particular course and specific institution.  This also gives information to the university about the skills you possess and the experience (academic or professional) you have.

This personal statement is about you to tell the selectors not only what all makes you worthy of getting admission in a particular course but also speaks about the social, creative, and other activities that you like to perform on indulging in.

This statement is used to tell about the personal circumstances also for example if you have any physically or mentally challenged family members, you should give information about him/her through this statement.

In other words, this statement is a small brief about your life personal, academic, and professional prior to seeking admission in a particular institution.

Structure of UCAS Statement

The personal statement should have a brief introduction about you followed by the most relevant academic and professional achievements.

Mention the reasons for opting for the particular course and your vision for using the same in the future. Emphasis on the skills that make you compatible to study the course and how you will be able to benefit from the same should be given. How you can contribute to the institution and community is also a good point to include.

While concluding very crisply touch upon your important skills placing on boards your suitability for admission.

Why it needs to be Uniique?

UCAS personal statement has to be UNIQUE and if you copy your statement from anywhere it stands as a minus point for you and may deprive you from admission in your dream institution and course.

The main reason for this is that UCAS has an archive of all the personal statements sent to it to date and believes that as every individual is unique the personal statement will be like the thumbprint and has to be unique.

They have software that can immediately detect any copied part in any statement and that can prove to be detrimental for your scope to get favorable results to your application.

Your circumstances and qualities, reasons for choosing a particular course, college, and country may be similar to someone but your expression to talk about it will have your original imprints on the style. That is minutely picked by UCAS. Hence it is essential to write your own statements taking your life and circumstances in consideration.
