Dubai Institutions Record a Growth of 3.6% in Student Enrolment

According to new data released by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) Dubai, student enrolment at Higher Education Institutions in Dubai improved by 3.6% on an annual basis. At the moment, there are around 29,168 students at Universities in Dubai. This data was recently included in an Infographic on ‘Growth, strength and possibility in Dubai’s private education sector.’

Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, Director General of KHDA said, “The growth and diversity in program choices offered by international universities in the emirate, and the sustained growth in international student enrolment highlights Dubai's ability to consistently deliver high-quality education and builds on our commitment to creating better education choices that offer families and investors new possibilities.”

This data is proof that Dubai continues to be the preferred location for students planning to study abroad. Several factors are responsible for this improvement in student numbers. This includes opportunities to take part in the research and development sector, a double degree of master’s and Ph.D. in a subject, wider program choices that are attracting more international students to study in Dubai.

Currently, Dubai boasts of around 34 international higher education institutions which offer over 600 programs. The ratio of international students to domestic students is more than 1:4. The total percentage of international students currently studying in Dubai is around 28%

Business, Information Technology, and Engineering remain the top three program choices for students. Among these, IT saw the biggest increase in student enrolments at international universities in Dubai in the last five years. 

Enrolment in IT-based subjects witnessed a 5.8 percent increase compared with the 2017/ 2018 academic year, followed by Law and Humanities (1.53 percent). Health medicine also witnessed a 1.51 percent increase in the number of enrolments during the same period.

Dubai is also a prominent business hub and acts as a bridge between the corporate worlds of the east and west. As a result, the career options for graduates are also tenfold. This is also one of the reasons why many international students choose to study here.
