TOEFL iBT Exam Format Revised; ETS Shares New Scoring and Registration Process

New Delhi: As per the latest updates, the format of the TOEFL iBT exam has changed. The administering agency, ETS, has disclosed the improvements made in TOEFL. These modifications include adjustments to the exam format, registration process, scoring system and many more. 

Following the modifications, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) will now take less than two hours to complete instead of three. Candidates will be able to check their score release date after the completion of the exam and they will also receive real-time notifications of changes to their score status.

According to ETS, changes in the TOEFL iBT Exam are being made to provide examinees with the best possible experience. The TOEFL iBT test will start on July 26, 2023 and applicants can take the exam within the chosen time frame. 

Applicants who have previously signed up for the TOEFL iBT exam now have the opportunity to book a free rescheduling. They can shift their exam schedule till April 30, 2023, using their TOEFL profile (if they are interested in experiencing the new adjustments)

Changes in TOEFL iBT Exam Pattern 2023

Beginning in July 2023, there will be a streamlined registration process for TOEFL Exam 2023. Examinees may now more quickly and easily set up a profile and sign up for a TOEFL iBT test date.

Starting on July 26, 2023, there will be more score transparency. After finishing the exam, test-takers will be shown the date on which their scores will be posted. Participants will also be notified about the changes in their score status in real-time.

Other local payment methods, if available right away and will be made available more widely in the upcoming weeks. Test fees and other changes will now be displayed in INR in the user's basket for the first time.

In addition to this, participants will also have access to practical local payment choices, including domestically approved credit and debit cards, digital wallets, and net banking, in addition to the frequently used international credit cards. 

An immediate, specialised 24x7 customer support centre will be made available for the Indian examinees. Beginning on July 26, 2023, the TOEFL iBT exam will be shorter. Earlier, the test would have taken three hours to complete; now, it will be done in just under two hours.

Following the modifications, the former "Independent Writing" work has been replaced with a new, more contemporary "Writing for an Academic Debate" requirement. It will also include a reduced reading portion and eliminate all ungraded exam queries. 

Informing about the changes, Amit Sevak, CEO of ETS said, "ETS is driving the future of assessment through product innovations across education and learning, and TOEFL is core to that effort. TOEFL has been an industry standard for nearly six decades, and these enhancements further underscore its position”.

“Most importantly, these enhancements were developed through the lens of our customers and stakeholders. A simplified registration process will be available beginning July 2023. Test takers can create an account and register for an available TOEFL iBT test date quicker and easier than ever before", he further added. 

For purposes of education, employment and immigration, the TOEFL iBT test serves as the most reputable, acknowledged and desired exam of academic English Language ability. The test results are used by more than 11,500 organisations in 160+ nations across the globe.
