The PCC or Police clearance certificate is required by those who are planning to study abroad. In order to obtain this, there are certain documents required for PCC that every study abroad aspirant should gather. It is usually required when an applicant is planning to stay longer and looking to apply for a residential permit. Make sure, tourists going abroad for a short visit are not required to carry PCC for verification.
The Police Clearance Certificate can be obtained from the Passport Seva Kendra in India by filling an application form. If the applicant is a minor, then also they will have to apply for PCC. The PCC is issued to three types of Indian applicants:
- Indians living in India
- Indians living abroad
- Foreigners living in India l
Documents Required For PCC
Below are three major documents required for obtaining the PCC:
Passport
Submit a self attested photocopy of passport including first two and the last two pages. Also the emigration check requirement or non-emigration check requirements page may be required.
Application Receipt
Include the application recreceipt from the passport services or the sms received from the passport service if necessary.
Address Proof
Submit any documents to prove your valid residential address such as:
- Aadhar card
- Voter ID
- Passbook
- Electricity Bill
- Rent Agreement
- Telephone Bill
- Passport of Spouse that must match with current address mentioned. The last page must include the family details including applicant's name as spouse
- Company or employer certificate on official letterhead
- In case the applicant is minor, then a parent's passport copy would be required.
Procedure To Obtain PCC
Apply for PCC through Police Seva Kendra, and then submit all the necessary documents and fill the form. The next step will be the Police verification if the address mentioned id is different from the one stated in the passport.
- If a candidate applies for a passport in june 2010 and renewed in june 2020 without getting his address changed but living in a different residence, then such applicant will need Police verification.
- On the other hand, if the current address and the address mentioned in the passport is the same, then such candidates do not require police verification until the passport expires.
- In case the address remains the same and the applicant's passport expires, then a physical passport will be required. The Police verification has validity up to 13 days which means a physical verification of passport will be required after the duration passes.
How To Apply for PCC?
Those residing in india may apply for PCC online by following the below steps:
- Visit the passport seva online portal
- Click "New User Registration"
- After registration Login to the passport seva portal
- Now click "Apply for PCC"
- Fill the details as required and submit the form
- Click on the "Pay and Schedule" button
- Print the application receipt by clicking "Print application receipt"
- Visit the passport seva Kendra accompanied with original documents.
Those residing outside India may receive pcc clearance from the Indian embassy after issuance of Police verification report from India. Follow the steps listed below to apply for PCC:
- Visit the official website of Passport Seva at Indian Embassies and Consulates
- Select the country or region from where you're are applying for PCC
- A new tab will appear
- Click "Register"
- Fill the details as mentioned
- Login by using the registered ID and password after clicking on "user login"
- In the home page click "Police clearance certificate" to apply for new application
- After submitting the application, take print out of the same. An application reference number will be generated
- Visit the nearby Indian embassy while carrying the required documents
- Visit the Indian embassy website or consulate for the list of application submission
- Print the application form and submit it physically in Indian embassy nearby
Track PCC Status
Those residing in india may track their Police clearance certificates status by following the steps below:
- Visit the Passport seva portal online
- Click "track application status "
- Select the application type: "Passport/PCC/IC/GEP"
- Enter the file number
- Enter your date of birth
- Click "Track status"
For those residing outside India may track their application status by visiting the "Passport Seva at Indian Embassies and Consulates"
- Select the country the region or country from where you applied for
- A tab of passport seva will appear
- Click "Track status"
- Enter the reference number of application
- Enter your date of birth
- Enter the characters as displayed
- Click "Track Application status"
