You won’t be besties with your orientation friend!

‘Tis the season for college enrollments and jittery first days, as you leave behind your school days to make way for greater things in life. If you’re part of the crowd who is starting out their freshman year in college, we’ve prepared a list for you. A list of people you will encounter on the first day of college itself, and if you’re lucky, make lifelong friends with, not all, but some of them.

1. Your “Orientation” Friend

This is the first ‘friend’ you make, but not out of choice rather out of convenience. You guys bond over your shared fear of what fresh hell college orientation ceremonies will bring.

2. The College Hotshot

This is your college’s proverbial bhai, he knows everyone from everywhere, and often, also has controversial political connections.

3. The Stranger Whom You Only Wave At

The start of your most beautiful relationship in college if you’re an introvert, like I am. You’ll only wave at each other, sometimes accompanied by awkward smiles, but never pause to have a conversation.

4. The Sports-quota Guy

The most annoying person you’ll meet in college who won’t shut up about their sports scholarship, is also a pretty decent guy once you get to know him. But, on the first day, you’ll be totally put off by him.

5. The Guy Who Attends College but NOT Classes

This is the college’s professional ‘bunker’ who will always be around campus but can never be found inside a class.

6. The One with The Guitar

The one who’s ready to strum the guitar at any given opportunity, and starts crooning at every occasion. And ofcourse, the girls will be swarming to him.

7. The Over-enthusiastic Bubbly Chick

You’ve never met such a faux-bubbly person in your life and are uncertain whether she is actually high on coke or life.

8. The Rich Kid

Every college has them. Every college hates them.

9. The Social Activist/Protest-enthusiast

The protest-enthusiast cum social activist usually hangs out with a group of other protest-enthusiasts, always on the look-out for newcomers to rope into their ideas of revolt against real--and perceived--threats.

10. The Person Who Disappears after First Semester

You wonder where they came from and where they went. He might magically appear to sit for the exams, or would have moved to a different country, and is living under an alias. You’ll never know.

But, regardless of whom you meet on your first day of college, hope you have an awesome year ahead.
