Chennai Super Kings (CSK), unlike Sheldon Cooper, appears to be averse to change. After a fantastic series win in the UAE last season, they had a massive auction to assemble a new roster, but the four-time IPL champions had a different strategy, or in this case, a similar plan. Chennai made six purchases on day one of the blockbuster event in Bengaluru on Saturday, four of whom were members of the former CSK squad namely Ravindra Jadeja, captain MS Dhoni, all-rounder Moeen Ali, and youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad.
CSK's largest bid outside of their core team for the 2021 season was INR 7 crore for uncapped Indian M Shahrukh Khan, which was unsuccessful. They even offered INR 5 crore for Rahul Tewatia, an uncapped all-rounder. CSK's largest acquisition was also their most costly in an IPL auction, when they repurchased Deepak Chahar for INR 14 crore. While they were unable to reclaim experienced batsman Faf du Plessis, who was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore, CSK welcomed back Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu, and Robin Uthappa.
The Yellow Brigade will undoubtedly be aiming for their fifth IPL triumph in 2022, with Ravindra Jadeja at the helm. The reigning champions began the day with Rs 48 crore in their bank account, but it cannot be stated that they spent all of it, or even a significant portion of it, wisely. The absence of head coach Stephen Fleming in the Bengaluru auction room was noticeable at times, as the CSK went about their business in a listless manner. They bolstered their 'core' team at the auction, purchasing the majority of the players who have been crucial to their success in recent years.
CSK purchased a slew of all-rounders on Day 2 of the IPL super auction. MS Dhoni's side spent INR 4 crore on Shivam Dube, INR 1.9 crore on Mitchell Santner, and INR 1.9 crore on newcomer Rajvardhan Hangargekar (INR 1.5 Crores). Dwayne Pretorius was also purchased for INR 50 lakh. Mahesh Theekshana of Sri Lanka was a bargain at INR 70 lakh, while Adam Milne was snapped up for INR 1.9 crore. Devon Conway was another addition to the list, with the 'Men in Yellow' paying INR 1 crore for his services. Chris Jordan has eventually purchased for INR 3.6 crore.

In the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Chennai Super Kings acquired back many of their original players, including Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar, and Dwayne Bravo, in an attempt to bolster their core. Dhoni, Jadeja, and Ruturaj Gaikwad were among the four essential players retained by the franchise. This time, CSK will have a new captain, who is anticipated to infuse the team with new blood. Mitchell Santner, Devon Conway, and Adam Milne are among the newcomers for CSK.
CSK will be without a number of key players from last season, including Faf du Plessis, Shardul Thakur, and Josh Hazlewood, who have all signed with other teams. Faf du Plessis and Josh Hazlewood have joined RCB, while Shardul Thakur has joined Delhi Capitals.
The Chennai Super Kings will be led by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has been with the team since 2012. CSK will be led by the lone third player, Jadeja. While Dhoni's decision to step down as CSK captain is being hailed as the end of an era, experts have praised the move as allowing for a smooth transition from old to new and providing Jadeja with the opportunity to work under the guidance of one of the greatest captains of all time, MS Dhoni, while he is still a member of the team.
