8 Soft Drink Brands That Will Give You a Taste of Nostalgia

PepsiCo and The Coca-Cola Company have been dominating the beverage market for long enough. These duopolists sell 100s of soda varieties every year and garner revenue of almost $100 billion. While their popular brands like Pepsi, Limca, Thums Up, Fanta and 7UP continue to rock the markets, there were other drinks in the past which dominated our heart.

Remember Campa Cola? These “gone but not forgotten” brands were really close to our heart. With the smell of nostalgia in them, we know how badly we want some of them to be relaunched. However, not all of them were unshelved for no reason. Many of these brands couldn’t resonate with consumers, like Pepsi Blue.

Many of them owed their popularities to quality advertising, while some became famous due to popular celebrities. Whatsoever may be the reason, these discontinued drinks would never be seen again. How many of these drinks do you remember?

1. Campa-Cola

A leading soft drink brand in India, Campa-Cola dominated the market in the 1970s and 80s before the advent of foreign players like PepsiCo and Coca-Cola.

2. Café Cuba

Parlé Agro tried to re-enter the soft drink market after 20 years with Café Cuba. However, this turned out to be a total failure, even before it could ignite the ‘revolution’.

3. Pepsi Blue

When Pepsi Blue entered the market, everyone was waiting eagerly. All this owed to the stupendous advertising featuring some of the most famous celebrities. Unfortunately, no one could believe the consequences when the drink failed miserably and was discontinued in most of the countries within a couple of years.

4. Gold Spot

One of the most widely popular drinks, Gold Spot was first introduced in India in 1952 by the brand Bisleri. Gold Spot was so famous that it even inspired the name of a Los Angeles based band. Unfortunately, the drink was withdrawn to make space for Fanta.

5. Orbitz

Ever saw a cold drink with floating balls in it? Orbitz was introduced in 1997 and vanished soon. No one knows what those edible balls were made up of in that “space-age drink”. However hard one tried, those balls never sank.

6. LMN

As hilarious was the advertisement, so was the drink itself. With its tangy lemon flavour mixed with a spicy touch, LMN deserved better.

7. Sprite Remix

Though Sprite Remix developed a rabid fanbase, Coca-Cola withdrew the drink as it wasn’t fetching much revenue. Still, Sprite Remix can be found in the Caribbean.

8. Josta

Dubbed as the first energy drink ever made, Josta had a fruity flavour with a hint of spice and a touch of guaraná and caffeine.

Campa-Cola and Gold Spot are badly missed even today. Though there is a profusion of soft drinks in the market today, most of us won’t forget those savoury tastes.
