HKBU Hinrich Foundation scholarship for Masters in International Journalism

The Hinrich Global Trade Leader Program, funded by the philanthropic Hinrich Foundation, awards 150 scholarships to eligible students from 10 Asian Countries to pursue a university degree and kick-start a promising career in specified trade. The Hinrich full tuition fee waiver for MA in International Journalism is awarded to the students of the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).
Through this program, the Hinrich Foundation aims to blend trade knowledge with relevant skills through customized academic programs in partnership with universities and organizations. The scholarship program combines the opportunity to earn a reputable degree in Journalism and also join the Hinrich Foundation for a post-degree work placement in a trade-related communication and export development capacity.

Eligibility Criteria

Firstly, to be eligible for the scholarship, students are supposed to take admissions at the Hong Kong Baptist University. Candidates are also required to meet the eligibility criteria as defined by the Hinrich Foundation to avail the scholarship:

  • Should be either a citizen of Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia or India.
  • Should have 5+ years of working experience.
  • Must have acquired at least an undergraduate degree in either marketing, business, journalism, social sciences, or any other related field.
  • Should be proficient in English with a valid test score in support of such proficiency. Acceptable English proficiency test scores are:
    • TOEFL (iBT): 79
    • IELTS 6.5
  • Must showcase strong communication & teamwork skills as well as leadership ability.

Application Process

Applications for the Hinrich Full Scholarship for Masters of International Journalism programs at Hong Kong Baptist University has to be submitted through the foundation’s online portal. The application should be supported by the following documentation:

Selection Process

Applications should be complete in all respect and should be submitted before the scheduled deadline to be considered for the scholarship program. Candidates who can demonstrate a clear understanding of study objectives and can show a connection between their academic rigor and the intended career through the essay and a compelling cover letter stands better scope of winning the award.

Please note that applicants who,

  • demonstrate an interest in working in Asia after degree completion;
  • exhibit a strong interest in working in trade-related sectors; and,
  • agree to engage with the Hinrich Foundation post completion of the degree for mentorship as well as membership in the foundation’s Alumni Association;

are given preference during the selection process of the Hinrich Full Scholarship for MAIJS in HKBU.
