B.J. Seaman Scholarship

The B.J. Seaman Scholarship is provided to one of the meritorious students for their academic performance. The B.J. Seaman Scholarship is provided to the students by the University of Calgary.

The Student shortlisted for the B.J. Seaman Scholarship is awarded with an amount of 2000 USD. Anonymous donations are made in recognition of the participation of B.J. Seaman in bringing the Flames Hockey team to Calgary.

  • The scholarship amount is 2000 USD and is awarded to only one student.
  • This is a continuing award and so the undergraduate students who are entering the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year are eligible for this scholarship. 1st-year students cannot apply.
  • An undergraduate student from any discipline can apply for this scholarship.
  • Citizenship is not considered. Students from any country can apply for this.
  • The scholarship is awarded annually. And it is paid all at once in the winter term at the end of December.
  • The deadline for applying is 31st August of every year.

Eligibility Criteria

To get the B.J. Seaman Scholarship, all the international students are required to meet the eligibility criteria as defined by the University of Calgary. The applicant:

  • Must have taken admissions at the University of Calgary in a full-time undergraduate program.
  • Should be continuing their studies in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year in any faculty.
  • Should have completed the most recent fall and winter terms with at least 24 units. Disabled students will be accepted with 18 units.
  • Should have a minimum GPA of 3.20 in the most recent fall and winter terms.

Terms and Conditions:

  • The students entering an after-degree program in the fall term are not eligible for this scholarship. However, they will be eligible after completing the first year of their after-degree program.
  • The supplemental exams, deferred exams, and special deferred exams or term work can affect the eligibility of the candidate for the B.J. Seaman scholarship.

Application Process

Students who have enrolled themselves in any of the undergraduate programs at the University of Calgary can fill the application form for the scholarship. The students are supposed to apply for the B.J. Seaman Scholarship by visiting the official website of the University of Calgary.

  • The applicant will have to sign in to their Study Center from the myUofC portal. Here is the direct link for the portal.
  • On the home page, click on ‘My Financials’.
  • Then scroll down to the Awards & Scholarship section.
  • Click on ‘Apply for Undergraduate Award’.
  • Ensure that the popups are enabled in the windows.
  • The pop-up window will open on the screen. If it does not open then maybe the pop-ups are blocked in the windows.
  • The new page will show all the scholarships or awards that are available and their application deadline dates.
  • Apply for the B.J. Seaman Scholarship.

Selection Process

The selection of the candidate is purely based on academic merit. The scholarship is only for the students enrolled in the undergraduate programs at University of Calgary. The performances of the applicants in their most recent fall and winter terms will decide whether they will be selected for the scholarship or not.

Few other things are considered such as the financial need, extracurricular activities, leadership, volunteerism, etc may be considered, depending on the terms of the scholarship.


Grant Details

To receive award payments, the student must continue to meet the terms of reference for their award and maintain full-time enrollment (minimum of 24 units) during the upcoming fall and winter term. Below are some of the related information about the payment of the scholarship fund:

  • The value of the scholarship award will be applied directly to the tuition fees of the student. The amount will be added until the end of December.
  • If there is any remaining award fund, then it will be paid directly to the student's bank account. This amount is referred to as ‘ Payout of Scholarship Refund’. It will be deposited by October 25 for the fall term and February 25 for the winter term.
  • Students can check their award payments in their Student Centre. All the information will be available in ‘My Financials’.
  • For receiving the ‘Payout of the Scholarship’, the student must provide the university with their bank details. They can update it in their Study Center, in the ‘My Financials’ and submit it on the ‘Submit Direct Deposit Info’.
  • Payments can be delayed if the banking information is not accurate or not updated.
