Stanford Reliance Dhirubhai Fellowship Program

Stanford Reliance Dhirubhai Fellowship Program is an initiative by the Reliance Industries Limited to provide financial support to Indian students who wish to pursue an MBA degree at Stanford Business School. The students are given the opportunity to complete their higher education at Stanford University to study in the USA

The program chooses up to 50 candidates, among which only five are selected for the Dhirubhai Fellowship. The program pays the fees of the concerning four semesters of the MBA degree program. However, students are supposed to return to India after completing the course and work in an Indian organization for about two years.

Benefit of Stanford Reliance Dhirubhai Fellowship Program

The candidate selected for the Stanford Reliance Dhirubhai Fellowship Program will receive financial assistance for about eighty percent of the cost of tuition fees and other costs related to the program for each semester in the two years.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this fellowship program, candidates must meet the admission requirements of the Stanford MBA program.

  • Bachelor’s degree(in any field that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree)
  • Submit GRE/ GMAT and IELTS/ PTE/ TOEFL scores. The minimum score requirements for the same are:
    • TOEFL-iBT: 100
    • IELTS: 7.0
    • PTE: 68
  • Submit letters of recommendation and statement of purpose

Application Process

To apply for the Stanford Reliance Dhirubhai Fellowship Program, applicants are required to complete the scholarship form and Stanford MBA application form. Applicants must provide the following documents at the time of application:

  • Mark sheets showing educational performance in class 10th, 12th, and graduation
  • Essay of 250-Words (on a given topic)
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae(CV) [Should be of one-page]
  • Awards, Certificates, and Recognition (both academic and social)
  • Employment history (years of experience, name of the organization, and type of work)
  • GMAT/ GRE Official Scores
  • Financial and tax-related documents
  • Family income (annual)
  • Official transcripts
  • Letter of recommendation: Applicants are supposed to submit two LORs highlighting their professional careers.

Note: This fellowship pre-application form does not require any fees.


Selection Process

The selection process of the Stanford Fellowship Program comprises of two main steps:

Step 1: After the evaluation of all the applicants, the university selects 50 candidates in the fellowship program based on their academic qualifications, financial need, and overall profile.

Step 2: Among those 50 selected candidates, the program chooses only 3 students, based on their financial needs, skills, leadership qualities, and individual characteristics.

The Stanford Reliance Dhirubhai Fellowship Program is only available to Indian students who have an excellent academic record and have passed out from a senior secondary school in India. 


Grant Details

This attempt by Reliance to support talented students financially by providing scholarships to study at Stanford Graduate School of Business is known to be a great initiative. The scholarship amount offered to Indian students to study in the USA is USD 150,000. The amount covers over 80% of the cost of attendance at Stanford Graduate Business School that includes tuition fees, course fee (Annually), living expenses, medical expenses, and other miscellaneous fees related to the University 

As per the fellowship guidelines, the recipients must return to India after their course is completed. Moreover, they must work for two years in an organization in India. It is not necessary to work for Reliance Industries Limited. Students failing to do so will be asked to return the fellowship fees to the organization.
