Support Scholarships for Young Women

Funded by the Financial Women of San Francisco, the Support Scholarship for Young Women offers a partial grant to undergraduate and graduate students studying in any of the Bay accredited University or Institution.

  • Candidates must be identified as a female, enrolled in institutions like Stanford University, University of San Francisco, Wharton San Francisco, Santa Clara University, UC Berkeley, etc.
  • The Scholarship offers:
    • 10,000 USD award to undergraduate students
    • 15,000 USD award to graduate students
  • Along with the monetary award, the Support Scholarship for Young Women also includes benefits like:
    • The selected candidates are required to attend a luncheon in their honor in June of the current year and are required to attend the Financial Woman of the Year luncheon in the fall of the same year (these may be virtual events).
    • Associate Level FWSF Membership and enrollment in Mentorship program
    • Professional Headshot
  • Eligible students must have achieved GPA of 3.0 or equivalent
  • Selections are based on a number of factors including academic achievement, financial requirements, documents, leadership skills, etc.

Applications for Support Scholarship for Young Women began from January, 2023. Students have till March 19, 2023 to submit their application along with supporting documents.

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the Support Scholarships for Young Women, make sure you meet all the eligibility requirement mentioned below:

  • Undergraduate Applicants: Enrolled in a UG degree; will be a junior or senior in Fall semester.
  • Graduate Applicants: Currently enrolled in a PG program and continuing students in and post Summer semester.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent.
  • Enrolled at any of the Bay accredited University or Institutions.
  • Follow a course of study to attain a degree and pursue a career in finance or in the financial services industry

Note: The candidate can also be enrolled and attending a school satellite campus located within 1 of the 9 Bay Area counties and taking at least 80% of classes at a satellite campus.


Application Process

For the upcoming scholarship session, applications began from January 2023. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is March 19, 2023

To apply for the Support Scholarship for Young Women, the candidates have to:

  1. Visit the FWSF scholarship website and fill out the application
  2. Upload all supporting documents
  3. Submit your application

Document Required

  • An updated resume summarizing past and present employment, honors and other recognition received as a student.
  • An essay of about 750 words demonstrating your future goals, leadership skills , How your goals and FWSF goals align and why you deserve this scholarship.
  • Academic Transcripts from your current or previous University.
  • A passport size photograph attached to your application which is helpful during interview rounds.
  • Two letters of recommendation, one from your professor and one from a past employer.

All documents have to be in electronic format and the documents and details should be accurate and in proper manner. These documents are a part of your application submittal and must be included no later than March 19, 2023, 11:59 pm P.S.T

Selection Process

Your applications are reviewed by the selection committee at FWSF and will be shortlisted based on whether the application meets all the eligibility requirements, that are,

  • Leadership skills in academics and community work
  • Strong communication skills
  • Willingness to participate in FWSF community work
  • Financial requirement

Shortlisted students are invited for the interview rounds. Interviews are conducted in 2 rounds:

First Interview

Personal interviews are conducted between March 26, 2023 and April 21, 2023. The candidates are shortlisted considering the following factors: Candidate's ability to demonstrate leadership skills Strong communication skills Willingness to participate in the Financial women of San Francisco community Financial need of the candidate

Second Interview

Following the first round of interviews, candidates will be rated and the highest rated candidates will be called for a second interview  in San Francisco (unless otherwise communicated), scheduled for April 29, 2023. All finalist candidates must attend the second interview in person in San Francisco or remotely.

Note: Selected Scholars will be honored at an FWSF Luncheon in June.
