Seymour Schulich Academic Excellence Entrance Scholarship

Seymour Schulich Academic Excellence Entrance Scholarship, offered by UCalgary, to UG students beginning studies in the field of Engineering. It is a merit-based scholarship which is open to only first-year students entering University of Calgary.

Recipients are awarded a renewable scholarship amount of 26, 350 CAD (15,21,487 INR).
Scholarship renewability depends upon every recipient's academic grades in the previous year. The minimum GPA score for renewability is 3.5.
A Separate scholarship application is to be submitted, by eligible applicants, via UCalgary’s centralised funding system.
It takes about three to six weeks time for the applications to be processed.

Applicants must complete all the admission and other stated requirements to be considered for the award. Since it is a tuition-fee waiver award, the recipients will have to cover their living expenses themselves.

Eligibility Criteria

There are no restrictions in terms of citizenship as the Seymour Schulich Academic Excellence Entrance Scholarship is open to every student. However, there are a few eligibility requirements which must be must by the applicants:

Commencing a UG Engineering program at UCalgary.
Outstanding academic record with CGPA over 2.5 (75%).
Enrolling as a full-time student with flair for academics as well as co-curricular activities

Note: It is not mandatory to seek admission first and then apply for the scholarship, though it is advisable to seek enrollment before applying. This is because the award will not be disbursed to the winner if he is not able to meet the prerequisites of the same.

Even though Seymour Schulich Academic Excellence Entrance Scholarship is an internal award, applicants are required to submit a separate application form.

Selection Process

The award is an internal award of the University of Calgary and will be adjusted towards the fees of the full-time Engineering freshman of the university. The selection is based on the merit that is considered taking into account:

the academic record
the admission application, and
scholarship application answering questions related to the motivation to apply for the course and award.

Weightage is given to the overall answers submitted in the inline application, previous academic record, and the relevant information that makes the candidate most suitable and skilled for the concerned study thus the award too.

Terms and Conditions:

Award is to be used toward the tuition fee and books cannot be used for any other expenses. As the award is internal the university takes care of the disbursal twice in a year.
Previous academic and non-academic skills and excellence coupled with the application submitted for the award are considered to decide the winners.
Award is renewable if the winner maintains the full-time student status and achieves a GPA of 3.5 minimum on a scale of 4.0.
The award will be disbursed to those winners only who have successfully enrolled themselves for a full time engineering undergraduate first year course at the university.

Students must note that the online application must be submitted as per the given deadlines and areas considered important for the application must be highlighted in the answers wherever applicable.

The applicant must be a full-time student and needs to maintain the same status for renewable receipts of the award.
