UAlberta Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship

Killiam trust offers UAlberta Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship in collaboration with the University of Alberta to students who wish to pursue a research degree at the university.

  • The scholarship applies to doctoral programs offered by the University of Alberta.
  • Recipients will get 45,000 CAD for two years.

The selection of UAlberta Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship recipients is based on the application form, research plan, academic scores, LOR(S). For renewability, selected students must submit a request in GSMS Awards Portal six weeks before the end of year one funding.

Eligibility Criteria

Students coming from different backgrounds irrespective of their nationalities are eligible. Apart from this, they must meet the eligibility requirements mentioned below:

  • Applicants must meet all academic and admission requirements at UAlberta.
  • They must pursue any of the doctoral programs offered by the university.
  • Applicants must have completed at least one year of graduate work:
    • master or doctoral level before the start of tenure.
  • Applicants must be registered in the doctoral program for 18 months (May 2023) 
    • Also, not completed more than 48 months in doctoral program by December 31, 2022. 

Application Process

Applicants are required to submit application forms for UAlberta Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship offered at the University of Alberta. 

The form must be complete in itself along with required documentation that is submitted to the department by departmental deadline.

Students supporting Documentation

  • Application Form along with details about the proposed research plan.
    • The research plan should have proper citations, bibliography, references. 
  • Two academic references
    • Completed and signed by each applicant’s referees.
    • A confidential letter of reference may accompany the standard LOR 
  • Academic Transcript with certified translations

Note: Once the application has been submitted to FGSR by the department, no changes will be allowed.


Selection Process

Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research will evaluate the applications submitted by the department. Documents such as LOR, academic transcripts, research plan will also be taken into consideration while judging the application.
