Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship

Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship is offered to Indian students wanting to pursue a master’s program at the University of Sydney. The scholarship program is valued at AUD 60,000 and covers tuition fees, books and supplies, and accommodation to study in Australia.

  • Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship is applicable for only PG coursework program at the University of Sydney.
  • Applicants are not required to complete any additional scholarship application form.
  • Applicants must be nominated by the Asha Community Health and Development Society (ASHA).

Every year, the university and ASHA foundation selects one Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship recipient. Preference is given to the student from the low-economic background. This gives them an opportunity to pursue higher education in Australia.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship, students must satisfy the following given eligibility criteria:

  • Student Type: International student, defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003.
  • Citizenship: Indian nationals and current residents of the slum communities Delhi, where the ASHA Society works.
    • Proof of residency is required.
  • Level of Study: PG-coursework program at the University of Sydney
  • Commencing the chosen PG program in 2023.

Applicants are NOT considered eligible for Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship if,

  • They are Australian citizens and/or permanent residents.
  • They have already started their chosen PG degree at the University of Sydney.
  • They are commencing a second degree at the University.

Ongoing Eligibility

The Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship is a renewable program. However, to renew their scholarship, the applicant must fulfill the ongoing eligibility given below:

  • Maintaining a minimum semester average mark of 65 and with no outstanding fees.
  • Those undertaking an exchange are required to have achieved the Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to continue their next payment.
  • The scholarship is transferable to another degree, major, or faculty but is cannot be transferred to another University.

Application Process

No application is required for the Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship. It is granted only on the basis of nominations made by the Asha Community Health and Development Society.

Other Important Application Guidelines:

  • Completion of ‘Acceptance of their Unconditional Admission Offer’ before the scholarship deadline is mandatory. Failing to do so will result in the cancellation of the scholarship.
  • Selected students must remain enrolled at the University of Sydney after the census date.
  • Living allowance payments, to stay and travel in Australia, are made to the student’s Australian bank account each semester.
  • Textbooks and an annual return flight to India will be reimbursed up to the value of AUD 3000, for which the payment will be processed in April and September each year.

Selection Process

The Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship will be awarded based on academic merit, personal statement assessed from a student’s application, and the financial need of the applicant.

The personal statement must be submitted along with the documents for admission of the postgraduate coursework degree. Securing admission at the University of Sydney is a must.

  • ASHA foundation will work with the University of Sydney to shortlist potential candidates.
  • The committee makes recommendations to the ice-Principal External Relations for their scholarship consideration.
  • The final selection is based on the nomination of the Vice-Principal External Relations.
  • The committee's decision is considered final and cannot be appealed.

The recipients of the Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship are selected on the basis of factors like,

The Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship recipient is requested to promote the scholarship and to represent the University of Sydney at student events, corporate networking events, and marketing events.

Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship – Terms and Conditions

An applicant must meet and accept the terms and conditions of the Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship carefully, before applying for the scholarship

  • Deferral or suspension of the award is not permitted.
  • The scholarship awarded is subjected to the availability of funds.
  • No amount other than the listed is payable. All the amounts are in Australian Dollars.
  • Applicants should participate in events or promotional activities of the University of Sydney.

The Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

  • Becomes a permanent resident.
  • Withdraws from an eligible PG course or fails to enroll in the course.
  • If the applicant commences a part-time study without approval.
  • If the applicant fails to maintain satisfactory academic performance
  • If the student is found guilty of serious misconduct.
  • Violate the rules of conduct of the University.
  • If the applicant does not resume study at the end of approved leave.
