South Asia Business and Law Scholarship

South Asia Business and Law Scholarship worth up to 12,500 AUD is offered by the University of Newcastle. Students planning to pursue a program at the Faculty of Business and Law at Newcastle University are eligible for the same.

  • The students from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are eligible for the scholarship.
  • It applies to a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate Business or Law program.
  • A total of 100 scholarships are awarded annually.
  • The scholarship is valued at AU$10,000 for each year of study under full-time study load, apportioned over each course taken (pro-rata with an approved load reduction on program plan, credits exemptions, progression or wellbeing grounds).
  • This equates to AU$1250 per 10-units of study and will be administered each term as a tuition fee reduction against the amount of credits initially issued in your letter of offer.

No separate application form is required for the same. Students will be evaluated based on their admission application.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must secure admission at the University of Newcastle to be eligible for South Asia Business and Law Scholarship.

Along with that, applicants must meet all the eligibility requirements listed below:

  • Must be an international full-fee paying student from South Asia country, being Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka.
  • Be commencing study in an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree program at the University (excluding ELICOS, Enabling, Non-Award, Higher Degrees by Research programs and programs delivered at offshore campuses).
  • Be commencing in an eligible program at an Australian or Online campus as indicated in your Letter of Offer.
  • Not be the beneficiary of a separate University scholarship unless prior approval for special dispensation has been obtained from the university
  • Meet all of the financial obligations of a full-fee paying international student, including the full tuition fee and other expenses for the purpose of obtaining your student visa, and in the event that eligibility for the scholarship is not maintained.
  • Not be enrolling in an excluded quota program: 
    • Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Diagnostic Radiography)
    • Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Nuclear Medicine)
    • Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Radiation Therapy)
    • Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine
    • Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy
    • Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours)
    • Bachelor of Podiatry.

Application Process

The South Asia Business and Law Scholarship will be automatically offered to the students coming from the eligible countries with an offer of study in an eligible program at the university.

To get the scholarship funding, the candidates must meet the terms and conditions specified by the university.


Selection Process

The selection for South Asia Business and Law Scholarship is done by the university.

  • Students will be assessed according to the application for admission to a program and they will be considered automatically for this scholarship.
  • Students’ academic skills and IELTS scores will be considered as the time of evaluating them.
  • Scholarships will be offered only the criteria are met and the number of funds available.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants who have applied through a University Partner Institution.
  • Students who do not receive an offer of the scholarship will not be eligible for the scholarship.
  • Internal transfer students who are studying at an Australian or Online campus and were not previously awarded the scholarship will also not be eligible.

Note: The scholarship offers a tuition fee waiver only and will not include the costs of visas, Overseas Student Health Cover, travel, accommodation, or any other expenses associated with studying at the University of Newcastle

The eligible international students who will commence a UG/PG in faculty of business and law at the University of Newcastle are eligible for South Asia Business and Law Scholarship.

Successful applicants will receive

  • Tuition scholarship up to AUD 10,000
  • The students opting for both trimester and semester programs will be offered the scholarship amount

Terms and conditions regarding South Asia Business and Law Scholarship:

  • The recipient must maintain an international student status until the duration of his/her enrolment at the university.
  • The scholarship amount will be canceled in case a student ceases to be an international student.
  • Since the scholarship is subject to review each semester, the scholar must maintain full-time enrolment and satisfactory academic progress.
  • The Faculty of Business and Law has the right not to award a scholarship.
  • The scholarship and the number available are based on the approval and funding in each academic year.
