Clarendon Scholarships

Clarendon Scholarships, awarded by the University of Oxford, is a fully-funded program that supports up to 130 graduate students from all over the world. The scholarship program covers each recipient’s tuition fees as well as living expenses and stay in the UK.

  • No restrictions in terms of nationality, residency or field of study.
  • Students applying for both Oxford’s full-time and part-time programs are eligible.
  • Applications submitted before the January deadline are automatically considered for the scholarship.
  • Selections are based on the applicant’s academic performance.

The scholarship amount varies for full-time and part-time program students. Full-time program recipients will receive at least GBP 15,009 (18,630 USD) and part-time program recipients will get at least GBP 5,003 (6,210 USD).

Scholarships are usually awarded between late February and June. If you’re awarded a scholarship, you may be notified at the same time as your department (or college) offer or later on, depending on the source of the funding.

Eligibility Criteria

The University of Oxford does have any specific eligibility requirements for the Clarendon Scholarship. All students who apply for Oxford’s Master’s and DPhil degree in any study field are eligible to receive the scholarship.

  • Candidate must be applying for a full-time or part-time degree program.
  • Admission applications must be submitted before the relevant January deadline.
  • Minimum GPA score of 3.7 out of 4.0.

Oxford students who are currently studying a master’s degree at the university and plan to re-apply for DPhil are also eligible for the scholarship program.


Application Process

No scholarship application form is required. Eligible students who apply, for admission at the University of Oxford, before January are automatically considered for the scholarship.

Students from all academic fields are considered for Clarendon Scholarships.


Selection Process

While selections are mainly based on the academic merit and potential of the applicants, the criteria slightly vary depending on the subject area. Applications are assessed on the following factors:

  • Academic Score: It is essential to have a first-class honors degree or its equivalent. A GPA of 3.7 or higher on the scale of 4.0 is recommended.
  • Future Potential and Aptitude: Review of references and research proposal helps in determining an applicant’s contribution to the field of study.
  • Student Motivation: Applicant’s commitment towards the desired course as stated in the personal statement and evaluation of the referee reports.
