Cecil and Edna Cotton Scholarship

Cecil and Edna Cotton Scholarship is offered to students who have completed the first year of their UG degree in computer science at the University of Waterloo. It is a renewable scholarship, i.e. it is applicable for students entering the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of bachelor’s program.

  • Based on academic scores/grades, one recipient is selected each year.
  • The scholarship amount of 2500 CAD to the student to cover the tuition fees.
  • No separate scholarship application is required. Eligible students are automatically considered.

Eligibility Criteria

The Cecil and Edna Cotton scholarship provides a chance for students of Waterloo to continue their UG studies. Prospective applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Citizenship: Permanent resident/ Canadian citizen/International student
  • Completion of the first year of UG studies at the University of Waterloo.
  • Enrolled in the regular or co-op computer science program

Application Process

The University of Waterloo does not require applicants to submit any external form for Cecil and Edna Cotton Scholarship.

All students who are studying in their second year of regular or co-op computer science program, at the University of Waterloo, are considered for the scholarship.


Selection Process

Selection for the Cecil and Edna Cotton Scholarship is done on a merit basis. Upon completion of the first year at the University of Waterloo, students are automatically considered for the Cecil and Edna Cotton Scholarship.

A selection committee will review the student’s past academic profile, any significant achievements including marks scored in the first year.

After all consideration, one student is chosen to receive the scholarship award.
