Remarks

I applied for Gauhati University for my Masters in Sociology course as it is a government institute but I couldn't be on the merit list in the entrance exam hence I took admission in NEF college which is under GU. There is no separate exams for admission into this college, those who do not get admission in GU are preferably asked to try for this college and then are accepted here. I also cleared the entrance in Cotton University and I was in the first waiting list but i already took admission in NEF college hence I did not shift later on.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

Students were less in our class. There were only 10 students. Other departments have more. Girls to boys ratio is 1:4 in our batch of MA in sociology. Students are from different districts of Assam only. No peer learning does not take place. Yes have marks for class participation and attendance. No students do not attend classes for learning but for attendance only, as teachers often told us we need to attend classes so that we can sit for exams. Otherwise we would be barred from exams.

Internships Opportunities

1

No students do not get summer placements. Placements do not happen. No students only apply for NET and other qualifying exams after our college. I am not aware about companies that are preferred. There should be proper internship provided.

Placement Experience

1

Placements do not happen. No students only apply for NET and other qualifying exams after our college. I am not aware about companies that are preferred. There should be proper internship provided to students.

Fees and Financial Aid

Total tuition fees - 25000/- per semester. Exam fees is taken per semester which is around 1500/-. The total fees is not higher than most private colleges or universities but is reasonable. . Government Scholarship is provided to students of EWS students if they apply. Not aware of the number of students who get scolarship every year.

Campus Life

4

There is no sports facilities within the college campus but nearby fields of schools are taken up during Annual sports days. There is no gym, no swimming pool. There is a hall cum auditorium and a library. College campus is pretty good and big with greenery. Yes there is parking lot for bikes and cars. There are food cafes and outlets nearby. Yes there is a medical center in the pharmaceutical department for immediate care. After classes students head home or to the nearby food joints. The college is closed after 4 pm. The locality is safe. There are no manor clubs and committees. No there are no known international immersion and student exchange programs offered.

Hostel Facilities

3

I am not aware about hostel facilities as i Was a day scholar. Hostel allocations are first come first serve basis. The rooms are small and not very appropriate. The food is cooked by the cooks. Quality is proper I am not aware about hostel facilities as I was a day scholar. As much as I have heard the hostel rooms are not big and facilities are not that proper. Food quality is proper and the food is cooked by the cooks

Exam Structure

We just have to visit the administration office and get out admissions from there, register ourselves with Gauhati University and apply there, also pay the fees via cash or online. There are not entrance exams for getting admission into our college but the student has to get a minimum of 60 percentile in their BA degree from their previous institute. After admission, after a gap for 10/15 days orientation day is kept on the first day of college and classes start from the next day onwards. No there is no other way to get admission.

Faculty

4

Courses curriculum of my branch is between moderate and tough as passing criteria is 50% . Many students gets compartment in exams . Exams are conducted on semester basis i.e 2 prefinals followed by labfinal and semester final exam .The faculty I admire most is my advisor Dr Vinod Kumar. He is the professor in irrigation department. There is 75% mandatory attendance in our college .

Placement Experience:

Placement Interviews officially start from 1st December every year. After 7 days the first phase is officially over. Everyone doesn't get placed. Around 12-15% students remain unplaced at the end of the placement season. To get them placed College organises later phase of the placement season but the companies in that are not generally well established. College also contacts it's alums for the placement. Highest CTC is around 2.4Cr(international), Average- 22L and lowest below ₹10L. For my course most of the students do not apply for placements, they apply for Masters in foreign universities. Microsoft, Google hire in bulk with each hiring 20-25 students and they pay around ₹40L -45L. Placement committee contacts and invites the companies for placement season. The process is definitely not 100% transparent as there are some instances of favoritism.
