Yes, IIIT Guwahati has a huge diversity. You can find students from South India including Telugu students in every department.

My cousin belonged to B.Tech batch 2019, in which a total of 25 Telugu-speaking people were there, making approximately 1/8th of the whole batch.
You will find many South Indian students regardless of which state they belong to. Even in the hostel mess, you can enjoy many south Indian delicacies for lunch and dinner.
My cousin always found them to be supportive and humble at sports or academics. That’s why he had many South Indian friends.

Overall, you will find a fair share of students from the Southern part of India and it is best to interact and make friends with them. It’s nice to have friends from different cultural backgrounds especially when they belong to your own batch.
