Mining Engineering at IIT-BHU is quite good. The Mining Branch in IIT-BHU came into existence in 1923 as a section of the Department of Geology. Later in 1944 separate Department of Mining Engineering was formed. It is one of the oldest and biggest Mining Engineering branch of India.
The course structure of mining is a combination of mechanical, electrical, electronics, earth sciences, computer science, and physics. The department has 6 well-equipped laboratories. The faculty is qualified and well-experienced in their field.
A lot of companies visit the campus placement drive every year such as Coal India Limited, Tata Steel, Vedanta, Hindustan Zinc, Jindal, etc. The Placement stats show that in 2019 the Highest package for the mining branch at IIT-BHU was 31 LPA and the average package was 12 LPA. Apart from the core recruiting companies, there are also placement options in non-core companies that visit the campus. Almost 95% of students from the Mining batch get placed every year. In 2019 placement drive a total of 85 students from the Mining batch got placement offers.
