How is life in IIM Ahmedabad?

Life at IIM Ahmedabad depends on your course, which year or term you are in, and your personal goals.

Until Summer placement:

The schedule is pretty hectic until the summer placements (Nov). Apart from the course work, you will need to work on your CV, attend presentations conducted by recruiting companies, prepare for interviews, and complete work for the clubs you joined.
It will take some time to get used to the rigorous academic routine. Lectures go on from 8:45 am to 1:10 pm. Being late to lectures isn’t an option. The notification for the 2:45 pm surprise quiz comes around 1:45 pm. Also, the deadline for most assignments is 11:59:59 pm.

After Summer Placements:

During this time, you will be considerably relaxed. You can concentrate on your academics and other activities since you will be placed.

2nd Year:

2nd year is different for most students. You will choose your course. So, the academic rigor will depend on the courses you are opting for.
Some students opt for exchange/dual degree programs. Some pickup positions of responsibility within the campus.
The final placements start from January and go on until February. Most start placement preparation from October/November.

Irrespective of the choices you make, life on IIM A campus will be enriching.

One of my friends had an amazing journey at IIM Ahmedabad. I can tell about his life experiences at the institute. Both my friend and his parents entered the campus with great enthusiasm. After all, IIM Ahmedabad is the Mecca of Management Education.

The beauty of the green campus and redbrick walls offer a great welcome to the visitors. You’d be awestruck with the feeling of being there. However, as my friend told me, once you get busy in academics, there would be no time to even walk through the campus.
Getting admission to IIMA with a good CAT score will make you proud and an achiever. But as soon as you meet your peers, the feeling breaks down as everyone is a topper around you.
It is definitely not easy to study at IIM Ahmedabad as 2-years of the program is demanding. It is equally extreme when it comes to a professional trajectory.

Life at IIMA is tougher than cracking CAT or IITJEE. Following are the factors explaining the hard campus life:

Attendance is very important to help you succeed in your future career. Your presence in class decides your learning and the more you learn, the better you perform. The usual class timing is 8:45 AM and you have to be there before time.
Similarly, the deadline for Assignment is 11:59:59 PM and if your submission is late, you may get an ‘I’ meaning - Incomplete Grade. This means you have to repeat the course.
My friend told me that students fight hard for Class Participation as it carries 10-15% weightage. You may find some students speaking unnecessary just for the participation but unless a valid point is made, you won’t be marked.
To survive in this intensive environment, it is equally important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Eat well on time and manage your sleep hours well.
Communicate with your faculty members as they know the best. They will guide you in both academic as well as professional fields.

Stay focused and do not let any distractions stop you from your goal. The course is a blessing in disguise and will prepare you for long-term success.
