What's your choice, IMT Ghaziabad (PGDM marketing) or VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur (operations management)?

There is always a dilemma amongst the MBA aspirants whether to join B-School or Non-B-Schools (IITs or FMS). There are various factors due to which these colleges differentiate a lot. Talking particularly about VGSoM and IMT-Ghaziabad, they both are the top category colleges and definitely comparable. 

The first and the most important point to consider is that pursuing MBA from VGSoM gives you the brand name of IIT Kharagpur. Although IITs are mostly known for Engineering programs, 3 IITs i.e. Delhi, Mumbai, and Kharagpur campuses. They have set a high benchmark for MBA programs as well. And obviously, the tag of IIT helps you in each and every stage whether it is placements, guest lectures, or anything. VGSoM has completed 25 years and it has a very strong alumni base throughout the world. It stands alone and comparable to other top-notch B-Schools.

Campus Life -

• IIT Kharagpur is well equipped with everything that a student might need for the successful completion of their courses. From transport facility to daily routine needs, everything is easily accessible.
• On the campus, only bicycles are allowed as a transport facility. IIT Kharagpur has the largest campus equipped with gyms, halls, sports grounds, and many more. There are theatres outside the campus and a few hostels as well. 

Placements - 

The biggest advantage that you will have in IITs is the small-batch seize which really helps you in getting better placements. The companies visit the campus and recruit students with decent packages. Even for the summer internships, you’ll get opportunities very easily. 

Hostel Life - 

• At IIT Kharagpur, one separate hostel is allocated to all the boys of VGSoM where they are provided with double occupancy. As almost 14000 students are there in the 2100 acre campus along with faculties, you get a chance to mingle with the brilliant minds of India. 
• Apart from that, entering into boys/girls hostels is not allowed. But there are many places inside the campus which are open all night and you can sit with a group of friends and have tea together with a group study.
• Mess food is decent although you might face some problems at the beginning if you are from the north/west because there will always be a difference in taste.

Now comparing IITs with others will be like comparing FMS with IIM-A. You surely cannot expect the same feel or similar competition as it is there in IMT/XIMB etc with such a huge batch size and being central government institutes. The kind of vibrant culture of B-School would be lacking a bit in IITs. But, you can surely interact with IITians and have good bonds with people, and have a great alumni base including IITians. 

You just imagine why would people go for FMS/SIMSREE/DSE etc instead of IIM/KJ/IMT, the reason behind these is just two factors ROI and Placements. Rest you are the best person to decide what suits you the best.
